Now that it is hotter than hell out (90-100+) my bike has decided to richen up on me. I have a HMF full system w/ quiet core and a K&N filter, plus the airbox lid is on.

Whenever I rev it up it blows out a bit of white/blue smoke. I think it is excess gas that isn't be burned because it is too rich. Am I right?

I am not fouling that many plugs so I figure I am still fine but will my problem cause my engine any other problems.

PS: If all else fails I will just try running with no airbox lid because it is real dry here.

sounds to me like your burning oil

it doesn't smell like oil though.

blue smoke indicates the burning of oil. try adjusting your fuel screw some to lean it up a bit. but i am pretty sure your going to need new rigs or vavle seals.

It didn't do it before I put my pipe on. And it only had been doing it when it is real hot out. Also it doesn't do it at idle.

How about white/gray smoke? What does that mean?

how long's it been since you changed your oil?
if its been a while, your oil might actually be broken down enough that its burning? try changing it and putting in a little bit heavier of an oil, like 15w50 or a synthetic 10w40. see if that helps any.

White smoke is moisture.

Holy S**t! MOISTURE, I didn't even think of that!!! It only started after the last time I gave it a big bath and I haven't rode it hard enough to get it hot enough the clean out. I would put my money on that.

Blue smoke is burning oil and you say you just washed it, maybe the water got in there and broke down the oil and starting to burn because of that or somehow because of the water you have stratches in your cylinder...? just some ideas-darren

I have a 04 400EX and i have the full system from HMF, (sport series). You will need to back down to a 152 main and a 42 pilot jet. You alson need to change your needle clip to the 2nd position from the bottom.

White smoke= moisture (water)
Blue smoke= oil
Black smoke= fuel (too rich)

If it is white you may have gotten it wet when you washed it. If it sat a while with the cylinder wet it may have started a slight amount of surface rust in the cylinder to mess up the rings and now you are burning oil. Have you ever started it with ether (starting fluid) if so it dries out the cylinder and any moisture will start rust quickly.

I do agree that my main jet is a bit too rich, but it doesn't bog no matter how much of a load I put on it. When I had the needle at the 2nd position from the bottom it would bog slightly except when I too my airbox lid off.

yea you said you arent fouling that many plugs, that should be a sign of richness lol

Really, because I used to be so damn rich that it would foul/kill the plug with soot after about 5 miles.
