All things comparable, what's the plus/minuses of a 250R punched out to 265cc and one bored/stroked to 330R? In my normal realm of muscle cars the old adage "there's no replacement for displacement" holds true, but it's been a while since I played in the land of 2-stroke quads. Anwyay, we're looking at doing some ATV rodeo type events, but would rather not find out down the road we shoulda gone a different direction...any & all advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

overall hp will be very close. 265 if ported and built right will rev out high. where the 310 ,330 ,350 are like tractors with higher torq numbers and smooth powerband.

The main advantage of a 265 is in racing. The 250cc class will allow a maximum displacement of 265cc. A 330cc would need to go into the open class with unlimited displacement. The 250cc class is generally more popular than the open class.

New classes that only allow 4-strokes are gaining popularity, but that has no bearing on our discussion.

A 330cc will have an advantage over 265 in almost any area you choose, if you dedicate it to that riding style. A 330 built for drag will be faster than a 265 built for drag. A 330 built for MX will have more power than a 265 built for MX. When you go all out to the max, you might be able to rev the 265 a little higher, but the 330 will almost always have more peak HP.

The only advantage a 265 will have is price. You can bore out the stock cylinder to 265 and port it. A 330 will require a complete aftermarket cylinder, and often will require case machining to do it right and allow the maximum number of overbores.

If you're not limited by displacement restrictions, or cost, then the 330cc will be better for just about anything.

I think all of the r&d that has gone into the 265 over the big bores make them pretty damn fast. forget eveyones fictisous dyno numbers. The big bores dont rev as high or as fast. I have found the on average the big bores are better all around, BUT a 265 ported and tuned correctly will hang with most big bores.
