You mean a 14 tooth in the front?? I run a 15/18 tooth in mine it works perfect for me.

Huh?? A 15/18????? A 15 wont even fit on the front of a 300 and i've never even heard of an 18 rear. You would have like absolutely no torque if that gearing setup was even possible.

um i think he means between 15 and 18 up front ...

haha my bad i meant 15/38. I has plenty top end and plenty bottom end but you have to take the case saver off.

No judgment at all just currious, why not go with a 14/35 instead of the 15/38?

Nearly and exact match ratio wise.. and more clearance at both the motor and skidplate? Not to mention a tiny bit less rotating mass (never hurts).

Theres only tiny tiny tiny (0.033) bit of difference in ratio.

I personally run 14/36 and 13/36.

Oh, lol. Well still, I never thought you could fit a 15 onto a 300ex. I had to take off my case saver to fit my 14. Well at least I learned something new today.

well im not sure he did this on purpose or not but the larger spockets you can get on there are always better bcause it provides less resistance for the chain to turn and actualy increases rwhp because of it, it may not be much but every little bit helps ( did you ever see bubba stewarts 03 bike the sprockets were huge)

A larger front sprocket will prolong the life of your chain. The thing that causes most wear on your chain is bending it around the sprockets, because you actually have metal grinding on metal in the chain links. They bend MORE around a smaller sprocket, because of the smaller diameter, so most of your wear comes from the size of the front sprocket.

What do you think will cause more wear? Bending 18 degrees or bending 21 degrees each revolution? Not only that, with a larger front sprocket, you actually have less revolutions of the chain.

Very true, and a good point.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I just don't like a 38" sprocket on the rear. Not enough clearance on the skidplate for me. Every time I smack a stump or rock my skid plate would smack the chain & sprocket since there was only about an 1/8" clearance on my DG skid plate. Case saver wasnt really the issue for me.. never seen one save a case before.. lol. The saver just breaks off with a chunk of case on it.. lol.

Thanks for the excelent response.
