I have some friends here in Oregon that run 14/41 gearing on their 400 EX's w/ 20x11x8 inch ultra light haulers. They claim that they can always do 2nd gear holeshots and rarely ever use first unless putting around the campground or parking lot. ( At the dunes). My question is I run 22x11x10 Hauler extreme's and they say I should run 14/42 to get about the same gearing. What do you all think?

youll have a little more topend using 22" tires than them. i havent used that gearing combo, but it sounds like youll lose quite a bit of topend, im pretty happy with 14/39 gearing i have. not as much torque as they have but enough to get the front tires off the ground easier.

if you want to beat your friends in a long haul bump up the front sprocket and drop the rear. 14 42 is alot of bottom end and makes each gear really short. you could probably pull trees out of the ground with that. if you want speed for cheap punch your motor out to a 416 or 426. maching is about 60 bucks and a piston is around 100.
