does anyone rev limit shift their 400 when they race

no need to, you have more power in certain rpm's so stick with them. like on dyno graphs it shows the horse power going up til a certain point then starts dropping.

Are you talking about speed shifting? Thats how I shift during drag races. Dont let off the gas and slap the clutch lever while you shift up thats the best way to get maximum hp and the quickest way to shift.

The rev limit on a 400ex is over 9000. The max HP is made right around the 7000 point I believe. When I'm racing, I shift right around 7000-7500, so it keeps the torque and HP up. Also, when you shift around that rpm, it puts the motor, in the next gear, right where a lot of the torque is. If you let it get to the rev limit, you will waste a lot of time, since the motor takes a while to spool up. Also, when you hit the limit and shift, it puts the motor right at the point where the power is dropping off.

i agree with everything ur say...are u guess at which rpm u shift at cuz i dont quiet get how u kno..no saying ur wrong just woundering

Get a small tach. It was helpful at first. I jusrt take it off now, since I know where to shift by the sound.

there is such thing as a rev box that blips at a certin rpm. when you accelerate you hold tension on the shift lever. then when it reaches the preset rpm to blip at, the rpms blip for a split seccond allowing the shifter to go into the next gear. then you just do the same thing for the next gear.
