Bearing carrier

I was taking off my dust seal to get to the bearings in the carrier and damaged a small spring that was behind the seal. Is it ok to put this back together without the spring.

No, the spring helps to squeeze the seal to the metal on the axle to keep everything out. If the spring is left out, water, or something else might sneak in.
