Alright , well I'm not usually one to post things like this , but my family needs all the prayers we can get right now .

My uncle has been hospitalized for the last week and a half with an illness that the doctors have no clue about . Right now his platelette (?) count in his blood is extremely low ... below 10 000 when a normal healthy person has a count of 242 000 . What this means , is that his blood is not clotting and if he were to cut himself , he'd bleed to death . Also , he has a "rash" all over his body , that almost looks like a hickey . It's so severe that the blood is actually comming through the skin . Today the doctors have performed a bone marrow (?) test to see for any type of cancer . They think it might be either bone cancer , cancer of the blood or leukemia . Our family and friends are all praying that it's neither one of these , and that it's just a bad virus that he has and that it will pass with time .

I'd just like to ask everyone to please keep my uncle Rob , his daughters and grandchild along with all my family in your prayers for the next little while ... it would be very much appreciated .

Thanks ,

Greg Larocque and Family

You got it, send one my way for my mom too. We still don't know if it is, or isn't cancer.

Thanks once again guys .

There are still no results in yet ... I went up and seen him tonight , and he's really down ... thinking he's never going to get out of the hospital . It's even worse because this weekend is a long weekend for us and a lot of people are leaving town . My mom came back from the cottage the other day and has spent everyday ( morning till night) with him to try and keep him in good spirits . I'm praying and keeping my fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious .... he just turned 40 this year . :(

good luck and my prayers go out to you greg. It seems like more and more people are getting seriously sick these days. I wish nobody has to go through this kind of stuff.

I just got off the phone with my mom , and things keep going from Bad to worse . Still no progress has been made . My uncle had a platelet transfusion which kind of helped , but bad news is most likely on the way . He'll have the results of blood tests and marrow tests sometime tomorrow , but all the symptoms seem to be shifting towards it being Leukemia .

My family's spirit is very low right now . None of us want to think of the worst ... but we are all trying to prepare ourselves for the news . My mom was a total mess on the phone tonight ... my grandmother is trying to deny the fact that it might be cancer ... my aunts are calling / writting and emailing specialists from all over to try and find some help.

Please continue to keep my family in your prayers .... we need it . :(

Well we just found out tonight that my uncle does indeed have Cancer of the blood . My mom and all her family is taking this pretty hard right now .

Within the next few days , they will be testing all of the family for a bone marrow match . Hopefully we can find one . The doctors will continue to do blood transfisions to keep his platelet count up a bit . The doctors have also arranged for my uncle to be sent down to Princess Margerette Hospital in Toronto ( 5 hours away) to undergo testing and see if they can get this thing under control . They believe that if they can find a perfect match for bone marrow , that he has a 50/50 chance of getting through this illness .

Please continue to keep our family in your prayers .

Well it's been one hell of a roller coaster ride . The doctors told my uncle that he had blood cancer ... he then went and got a second opinion and they said it's not cancer but some sort of infection . My mom's step-brother is a head scientist with a cancer research facitiy up here , and from what he said he's seen in the blood , he believes it's also just some sort of infection .

So my uncle was fed up with all this BS of not knowing who to believe , he packed his bags and headed down to Minnissota with my other uncle , my aunt and my grandma , to have tests done at the Mayo Clinic , which is a world class cancer hospital . After numerous tests , the results came back , that it is indeed a cancer in his blood , BUT they don't have a clue what kind of cancer this is . With the thousands of patients they've seen over the years , they have NEVER seen this type of cancer . They sent my uncle home without a definite answer , and they told him , that this was the first time they have EVER sent someone home , not knowing what type of cancer they are dealing with .

The only advice they could give my uncle , was to get all his legal ppers in order and get ready to be able to pack and leave at a minutes notice to get a bone marrow transplant done . This would be a life or death transplant . He would have to go into issolation for 3 weeks while they literally kill his immune system and prepare for the bone marrow . And there is a high risk that the marrow doesn't take ... which could kill him . None of the people that have been tested for the bone marrow have come up as a perfect match yet . Myself along with many of my friends and family members will be getting tested within the next couple of weeks to see if we are a match . The odds of finding a match are about 1 in 25 million. :(

Please continue to keep my uncle and his family in your prayers . Thanks .

The Prayers have been answered .

Late last week , our family held an information night for people that feel they wanted to become Bone Marrow Donors and the turnout from our community was AMAZING !!!

The doctors have been able to find a near perfect bone marrow match for my uncle . They rate the match on a scale of 1 to 12 ... 12 bing a perfect match ( identical twin) . All my family had been tested and they all came up with a match of about a 5 or 6 rating ... which wasn't good enough for a transplant .

But like I mentioned , we received news that through the national and worldwide registry of people that have signed up to be donors , one result has come back as a 10 rating . The odds of this happening are VERY slim ... but someone must be watching out for my uncle .

My uncle is just waiting for results of an experimental drug that he has taken , to see if it improves his condition ... if nothing happens , he will go through with the transplant .

This has been a huge weight lifted off all of our families shoulders .

We do not know who this person is , or where he or she is from ... but in case that person ever by any chance reads this ... THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!:)

I know this is old , but I just thought I'd update and thank everyone that sent their prayers our way .

My uncle is doing incredibly well . Doctors have ruled out cancer and he is symptom free today . He still has to go for regular blood monitoring every 2 months , but he is back to his normal self . All the weight he had lost , is now gained back , he's full of energy , and back to being the uncle that I knew .

The doctors and scientists are still not sure exactly what it is he had . Quite possibly a really bad infection in his blood , but it was reproducing itself like a cancer .

But once again , thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers when we needed them the most.
