What could I expect from a setup like the following.

JE 416 piston 11:1 (can't remember size 87mm I believe)
TC MX grind cam
LRD Exhaust
Port + Polish Head
XR 250 CDI box

Any replies would be appreciated.

What are you doing with it, racing it I assume, MX right. With that in mind I would like to suggest the Sparks cam. Its a midrange cam and on a track it hits right where you want it. Think about it how many times are you really using the lower rpm range. Also I would scrap the cdi box deal, save your money and put it towards something that will help your motor not something that will destroy it. Other than that it looks good, you should notice a large increase in hp. If you ever ridden a raptor you can compare to it.

Well it all sounds Good besides the Pipe and Rev Box. I would stick with the Piston and Cam Setup you have Listed. Those would work very well together. For the Pipe I would get a TC, Sparks, or Hetricks Pipe. If you get a TC Cam I would get the TC Pipe. If you get a Sparks Cam get the Sparks Pipe. Their Pipes are built around their Motor Work. The Port and Polish would be Good. I would not get the Rev Box. I would save for a 39mm FCR Carb.

Everything sounds good except for the cdi. The xr cdi will give you troble in cold weather when you try to start it stone cold.

I already have the LRD exhaust and don't feel like dishing out the extra $320 for a TC pipe. Besides those things are just too loud for me. But which cam is better for mx the TC or sparks. Will my motor be safe doing just the things I mentioned(pipe, cam, piston, port +polish) with out anything else being done to it?

I thought you were going to Buy a LRD. If you already have it keep it. The difference between TC and Sparks would be hard. The Sparks Cams are a lot more Money. I know all the Guys that have a TC MX Cam like it a lot. Who is going to do the Port and Polish?

I think everything you listed looks got exept i have no idea about the CDI, and i think the LRD exhaust is great!

thats the exact set up i am goin to run...

i have a 406 though and a stock pipe at the moment but i hope to get a lrd exhuast in a 3 months or so... i ain't gonna do the rev limiter either bc it makes the bike hard to start... get everything u have listed without the xr250 rev box and u got a awesome motor...

I talked to Tom today (seems like a real cool guy). His prices seems fair, and he said I can use my stock rockers and valve springs so thats good. I think Im going to use a 38mm lectron carb for the bike too.

Tom is a cool Guy. I have talked to him at Red Bud and he is really nice and takes the time to explain everything. Plus he does have Great Prices. You will be very happy with a 416 kit from Tom. What all did he tell you to get?

That will be a Great Setup. Are you having Tom do the Port/Polish also? He would do it better then just about anybody. I think you will be Happy with that Setup.

Ive got one of those XR250 CDI's. The dealer told me that it is exactly the same as the OEM CDI on the 400EX with only one exception...the XR 250 CDI is cranked out 1000 RPMs higher.

As for cold starts, Ive only had it in since April. Ask me about it come next January. :D

MIne made starting the 416 hard in any weather,,,it wouldn't start when it was 90 degrees outside..cold weather had nothing to do with it.. It worked flawlessly for about 8 months,,then it would not start at all with the other CDI..
