I think your best bet would be a crf250, or yz 250 motor. They would be able to fit in your 300ex.

yeah you're probably right im pretty much open to anything that isnt a 2-stroke becasue of the counterbalance

It was on e-bay..don't have any info on it. You'd be better off with the bigger yfz or crf motors because you can find them easier. you'd end up having to buy an entire bike usually. I think you shouldn't shy away from 2 strokes. keep them on your list. a 250r or any 250 2 stroke would be very quick in a 300ex. I have pics of one with a 250r motor. looks very easy to do.

the only reason i would shy away from the 2-stroke is because of the counterbalance..keep up these ideas guys!

You wouldn't notice much vibes from a 250 and if you used a 250r then its balanced. Theres lots of motors you could use. If I were you i'd find a KLX300 motor. I've seen them in a 300ex and they are FASTTT dohc water cooled. similar to the 450 motor design I was going to build one. never got around to it. I might have pics somewhere.

put a crf450 in that 300 it would be the fastest ever but youd have to brace the hell out of that frame and get a heck of a suspension

would i be able to use the xr500 motor or would it be too tall to fit in my frame?

you might have to modifiy the gas tank and the top frame rails...i would stick in the 200-400 cc range...why not a 350x motor...that would rip

350x motor is almost made for the 300ex. ;)

Easy hybrid.. cheap (in comparison) and worth every penny.

try somekind of 250 fourstroke bike motor. That should rip pretty good and it would be different. Any 400-450 motor would rip the 300ex apart....

im thinking the crf250

The XR500 motor will fit, and has been done before. Thex1992 did this motor swap with a 250x, same frame as the 300ex. I still say crf250, keep with a honda motor in a honda frame. Also someone mentioned the 350x motors, those can be built to have tons of power too.

do u remmeber if thex1992 had much trouble getting the frame in there? maybe i will PM him

If I remember corectly it was a pritty tight fit. He almost didn't do the build, I remember I almost bought that motor off of him.

The xr500 motor is perfect my friend had one with elkas and other stuff. he said i t had more low end then his yfz but the yfz had lots better top end. just make sure you gusset it because it wont take the abuse(thats were my friend went wrong:( )because the bigger motor will put more stress on the frame also you will be going alot faster and higher to. my second opinion is a 350x motor done by powroll or tc this would the easiest powroll sells kits.425cc from powroll. good luck!

put a cr250 motor in a 450r frame, and make a new age 250r

i think a 250f dirtbike motor would be best with a mx set up, that would be awesome!

alrite so now for the question of the century..do i build the hybrid with the 300ex frame or to i sell/part out my 300 and build a 250r during the winter?

08-02-2005, 07:21 PM
well if you do go with the 250f id look into the yz, they have a lot more bottom and and ton more mid range than the honda , but it also has about the same top end

yes you should do a 250r project instead. with a yz250 engine
that would really rip
