I was not proud of my 400ex After i came back from the dunes with a couple of friends, i raced one friend of mine he has a 2003 totaly bone stock 400ex and i have a 2002 400ex with DMC alien full and stage 1 hot cam, k&n filter and 14 tooth front sprocket, we race because i wanted to see how much my mods help me and yes its jetted properly and we raced he beats my by 4 bikes LENGHTS i was like what the hell we raced again same out come, switched bikes same out come and his bike feels slower so i dont know what, what do you guys think?
loose the 14 tooth sprocket and make sure your throttle is adjusted properly at the throttle housing. They come from the factory with lots of play and you could loose up to 15% of yoru power.
get rid of the 14 tooth sproket.

hows your jetting ?too rich?condition of your piston/rings?valves sealing well?a good running stock quad will outrun a poor state of tune quad with aftermarket goodies thrown on.especially if the components dont compliment each other;)

Check you plug to see if jettings dead on. Brown is what you need to look for. Or do what Rico said check your throttle cable.

LoL aye..
the 300's seem to run no matter how screwed up the air/fuel sytem is.. lol.
I've had the main fall out in the carb before and the thing still ran fine except when under heavy load it both spit and bogged at the same time.

Yes,
Check those throttle cables.
Ck rear of carb and make sure the slide is opening all the way
at full throttle.
Maybe remove air box lid,if not already done.

Wait when you say you two switched bikes and it was the same outcome....you mean his bike won or he won on your bike?
I have a 16t sprocket on my quad. works mint. I love it. makes 1st gear usuible on the track.

could be a couple of reasons why,,,id say by the sounds of it, the other person probably is just a better rider. Just goes to show that just becaue you have all the mods,,,that doesnt always make you the faster rider.

how do you check the throttle cable for play
and how do you get rid of the slack??
duke416ex

Check it by pushing the throttle, it is like the clutch, if you can feel play before it has tension on it, you want to adjust it up, but take all the slack out instead of leaving any. You adjust it where the cable comes out of the throttle housing, the adjustment is covered by a rubber boot.

Fill the other racers tires with water instead of air!

if your going to do a cam, just as well put a piston in it.
it sounds to me like you just suck, j/p, but seriously ride your bike a lttle bit more and get better, most people dont even use all the power they have, then race him again, imo its 10% machine and 90% rider
