View Full Version : i blew up my 250R :(

i just blew up my 250R (as a result of a bad base gasket) none of the parts broke off inside but thats all i know. how much can an 1986 250R be bored out over the stock 66mm? what kind of piston should i get? how do i drain the coolant (im not used to liquid cooled quads)

How's it going, I'm located about 10 minutes south of Lake Placid...

If it's still on the stock bore (which would be suprising for an '86) you should have plenty of room to bore as needed..

Throw it in the truck and run her down here and I'll help you get her back together if you want..

You guys have any good riding spots up there?

I think the R goes out to like 68-68.25mm. Somewhere in there. If you don't have room for another bore on that cylinder go to a CT Racing 295 kit. Mine cost about 450 bucks which is what it cost to have a new stock sleave put in it. They did all the work, milled the head to the compression I wanted to run, included a boast ported piston, and all the gaskets. It was well worth it, it added TONS of low end grunt:D

ont the water pump cover, ther is a bolt u remove to drain the coolant, and on the cilinder, ther is also a bolt u remove

You can go to 69mm on any year cylinder. My 89 is bored .120" over right now.

If your cylinder is damaged, I have a cylinder I may sell if you are interested.

there are soooo many sand pitts around here as well as many many many miles of state maintained trails. im one hour north of lake placid. i will check the bore on it tomorow and let you all know. i might need that stock cylender.thanks,
