spitting out oil?

My friends 400ex is spitting oil out of the breather, does this mean the rings are bad, or is it the cylinder walls?

sounds like he has to much oil in it and its just pushing the unneeded amount out. tell him to start his quad and ride it til it gets up to operating temperature, then shut it off. let it sit for like 2 minutes then check the dip stick to get an accurate reading.

i over filled my 400ex but not by alot and it smokes oil when u first start it then it gets warmed up and dont do it anymore same thing happened with my buddys raptor

it spit out all of the oil. Then when refilled it spit out another quart.

:eek2: thats crazy? is it still under warranty or anything. if so take it up to a dealer and havem check it out. it shouldnt be spitting oil out of the pcv valve like that.

Sounds more like a head gasket leak into the oil tube coming up through the cylinder. ( I think the 400ex has the oil line running through the aluminum cylinder instead of an external tube, but I'm by far no 400 expert.)
