300 ex ticking

it sounds like it is ticking and it is a new quad so the valves were just adjusted.....any ideas.... i just put a k&n and rejetted but it was doing it prior...could it be spark knock if so how do you tell

well how new? the ex's are known to tick even when properly adjusted. does it have a different cam in it, those will make it a little louder sometimes. for the spark knock- what octane are you runnin? if its spark nock it will mainly do it under a load and its more of a ping noise.

real new under 40 hours..... stock cam.. 87 octane should i run 89 or 93?

oh, its normal then. my 400 started tickin after about 20 hrs or so.
if its runnin fine on the 87 then i wouldnt worry about it, if it starts pinging then go to 93.
