My quad started running poorly... felt like the timing was off. and made clanking noises(valves hitting the piston) so i figured i needed a new cam chain. I opened the clutch cover and cylinder head and found that everything looked normal besides that the cam chain was pretty loose, do i simply use the cam chain tightener and see what that does for me (would have to retime if its messed up but all i would have todo is tighten the cam chain, not get a newone, right????

Your camchain is stretched and needs to be replaced. Most guys replace it with a 02 model crf450 honda dirtbike chain that is a lot beefier, and you can buy it from service honda for under 30.00 plus shipping. I 'm not sure if the actual tensioner gets weak also ,maybe someone else could give us some input on that. I'm running the pro-fab timing chain, but after a year and a half of racing stadium mx my chain is starting to get noisy too. Hope this helps, dannyb
