In search of KTM...Will sell my R engine

Hey guys i am looking for a ktm520/525 sx or exc engine, preferably the sx. I am going to build a hybrid with my laeger cr500 link 250r frame. I am also interested in a used bike...any offers will be considered!
p.s: i am also going to be selling my 270pv engine out of my R! It is a niks cylinder, ported and polished..is a nikasil coated cylinder, actually is a 275cc engine when u run the 69.5mm piston. It is in great condition and puts out around 200 plus for comperssion. I will even rebore the cylinder, put in a fresh top end, and powdercoat the stator cover, and clutch cover. I will also be selling the curtis sparks mx pipe and silencer with it, cr250 ignition(huge performance gain), lonestar custom airbox, and 38mm pj series carb...plus more. if you have any questions let me know and i will answer to the best of my ability! If i want to throw me an offer, than post it or pm me! Again the only reason i am selling the engine is b/c i want to throw the ktm engine in my frame.

i wanna do this too sometime in the future.. keep me updated when you do this sounds like a awesome project... i actually have a buddie that has a 520exc and a 525 sx.. he is looking for a r frame for the 520exc ... this way he can run lights with the exc verses the sx... either way its gonna rip...

What type of power valve is it (duncan, esr, lrd, etc.) What type of porting does it have (mx, xc, tt)? Can you send me some photos to exracer@dixie-net.com?

actually its a NIKS powervalve cylinder which i think is the same that LRD uses, but it is a really nice cylinder that is nikasil coated and i will have it honed again or whatever so it performs at its best when it come to you. I have a brand new piston in there raced once yesterday and also a new backup on with rings. it is mx porting which gives you a HUGE midrange and larger bottom without hurting your top end. i will send some pics! I had to get my computer wiped so all that i had was lost. Check your mailbox tomarrow!

You don't hone a nikasil cylinder

well accourding to the mechanics at avon cycle join in avon new york, a light hone should be done after every topend change, just to get rid of any sort of scuffs that would cause lower compression. The man i bough the machine from, Aaron Reisig(pra-am unlimited) owns many 250rs and enerything that i do to the machine i check with him first, and he is also the owner of that shop.

Well then you need a new shop because you do not hone a Nikasil cylinder.

well i have not had it done yet b/c when i did my first top=end change there were absolutly no scores, but the mechanic said at the next top end change i should consider a hone in case there are scores. the cylinder is not even a year old yet, so i just changed the top end once. Why do you not hone it?

Because it has a coating on it. If it is scored or scratched you have to get it recoated. A regular cyclinder is ok to hone but not a coated one.

oh, ok good look dude! I am glad i dident doit first. That is my first nikasil coated cylinder so i was unaware of that. Freakin mechanic was prolly just tryin to make a quick buck! well than if it scratched or scored...i will recoat it for the buyer! Highly doubt it though since i just changed the topend yesterday.

If your looking for a KTM motor, my suggestion would be to contact Jennifer Rath at www.rathracing.com I know they were able to get crated motors at one time when we were thinking of buying one ....

Light scratches are ok. If it has deep scratches then it will need to be recoated.

list of mods:
Bottom end - 89 Long Rod
vortex basket, vesrah clutch set..was just rebuilt 1/2 season ago(rod, crank, etc...)
Top end - NIKS 1986 style 265cc powervalve cylinder(1 year old),cylinder spacer plate, Nikasil coating, mx ported, polished, 1 race old wiseco high compression piston 69.5mm which puts it at around 275cc, CR250 reed cage with spacer, boyeson pro series reeds, niks head which uses ESR interchangable domes(largest size currently in use)
Pipe - Curtis Sparks mx pipe and silencer
Carb - Keihin PJ series 38mm
igntition - cr250(new last year)
Intake - lonestar custom intake which uses 1 foam filter, and a k&N inside the system
Extras - PCP coated wiseco piston and new rings, chrome motor mounts, yamaha throttle(best setup found),and clutch cable.

Motor has been babied! Tranny got new oil after every use, Mixed 32:1 with klotz supertechniplate oil, used mixture of 110 octane leaded race gas and regular gas(3 gal. race 2 reg.)

Asking $2300 But any offer will be considered
