i curently own a Honda Recon 99 and its getting a little beat down. This thing has high milige on it. And i pretty much drive it like a chainsaw either i got the throttle wide open or else its idling. 1st gear-- wide open
2nd gear-- wide open
3rd gear-- wide open -transmission slips-
3rd gear (again)-- wide open
4th gear-- wide open
5th gear-- wide open
I like it and stuff but today when i went riding with some friends they had
Trailblazer
Suzuki Ozark
Sportsman 500
300ex STOCK
300ex Piped
250x
225 3 wheeler Yamaha
YZ125 Yahaha
Polaris

They pretty much had all sport quads and i had mines pinned down quite a bit.
I drove one of the kids 300ex STOCK and I liked it. I do mostly ditch riding fast ditch riding and some fun in the mud. Do you guys think i should get a 300ex.
What are some good mods you can do to it and can you get it going 60-65 with just a few simply mods. Also having really really good low and especially mid range power thats what matters. No Boring or shaving of anything. Also do you think the frame is kind of small im like 5'10 155 or 160 lbs. I felt pretty good on it though. Can you get a 300ex to run with a 400ex with just a pipe and a filter and mabey some good tires and a few other simply mods.

Any people who have these quads tell me what you think give me alot of detail i got nothing to do sometimes so give me alot to read so what do you guys all think.

you need a whole lotta mmore to keep up with a stock 400ex!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have to get into the motor to even think about keeping up. i can burn a pipe, jetted, filtered, camed 300ex.

The 300ex is pretty fun and reliable. You seem like your a bit big for a 250 so its probably a good size, but if you are still growin' then I'd take for the 400ex. I rode a friend's 400 around my trails the other day and seemed to notice that I was scrubbing the fenders on the trees, normally that I dont on the 300, so that might be a small difference in shape, the 300ex's fendors are more cut in. The airbox tubes are higher up in the 300ex also, and it has reverse ;) Other then that they are pretty simalar machines ( cept the 400 has like 4 valves heh )

Go with the 300ex you wont be dissapointed. If you go to
www.quadreveiws.com and click on the 300ex reviews you will hear people say only good things about it. Some people even say they would take it over the 400ex thats how good it is.

Jay300EX: The 300EX has 4 valves too.

tkatka70: The 300EX is a good choice, it is very reliable and also very fun. Reverse is always a good thing, and well the 300EX is just a great quad. I would take it over the 400EX, but thats my personal opinion.

If you have a Recon, the 250ex wont be a step up, and it wont keep up with any of those quads you listed :huh

well sure i probably would get a 400 if i could but then why dont you get a Dodge Viper instead of a Geo Metro. I dont got much money. I would probably need to make payments on a 300ex. What would they go for used 99 or newer.

ALso this sight is awsome i already ohave 10 repies in one day sweet of www.atvnews.com i posted pretty much the same thing a few days ago and i probably only got 10 replies now.

the 300 is an awsome quad. i would take it over a 400. with an extra 500 bucks you can bore it, pipe it, and probably a filter and smoke a 400. whatever is good for you.

The only thing that sucks about the 400 is that it doesnt have reverse.. Not sure why Honda hasnt put it on the 400.. In my opinion, if it had reverse- it would prolly be the BEST quad out there.
Sooner or later I will prolly step up to a 300.. I want to get more experienced on mine first.. Ive only been riding for a couple months.
If you want a 300EX get one.. I am sure you will be 100% happy with it..

Ill race ya......
a 300EX would be a good choice for you, if you do lots of woods, and ditch stuff.
I dont think a 400EX would be a good choice if he does alot of ditches, and stuff. If you have reverse, you would stand alot better chance mudding too. Im about ready to buy some 25 inch outlaws for my buds 250X.With a 300, you can do alot more with that reverse, and it fits better to your size.
Your about my size, cept im alittle bit lighter.Id say go with a used 250X with some mods(make sure you ride it to make sure it runs good.), or get a 300EX.If you like electric start, get a 300. If you like kickstart, get a 250X.
Happy Riding.

if you ride with those quads you listed then just get the 300ex.
if you always want to stop on the trails and wait for your freinds get the 400ex. i would just get the 400ex because after you own the 300ex for a few months you will want to step up to a 400ex,
atv_king300ex is just saying to get the 250ex because he bought one and wished he bought a 300ex or 400ex, or wants to drop a ton of mods to make it fast
a 250ex isnt a step up from a recon. dont get the 250ex, trust me

i bought a 2000 recon when i was 13 and got tired of it in less than a year, after riding with some people with 300exs i was sure that i wanted a 300ex. i bought one and love it, a month later my brother bought a 400ex and since he doesnt have reverse he ahs to stop and move his with his feet. go with the 300ex i love mine.
