ive been told by a couple of people that 400ex parts will fit on a 300ex, meaning axle, a-arms, swingarms, etc. is this true??

The a arms will, the axle wont. The swinger might, uhh shocks will fit with a relocator bracket, the plastics will with somne mods.

The swingarm won't, at least not without major modification. The 400 swingarm has a linkage for the rear shock and the 300 does not, so you would have to weld on a linkage mount to your frame, and then find a linkage to work, then have a custom shock built specifically for that setup. The swingarm is also wider. If I rememeber correctly, the axle carrier is about 2 inches wider than the 300's, so you would have some serious chain alignment issues.

I also don't recommend doing the 400 a-arms on a 300. Some people will say that it works, others will tell you that it doesn't. Ask roostin_dale, he'll tell you what he thought of the setup.

Your best bet is prolly to get a set of good +2 or +3 300EX control arms, find a relocator bracket, and throw on a set of 16.25 through 16.75 inch shocks(i.e. stock length 400EX, 250R, 450R, Z400, or YFZ 450). Any of those would bolt up. But a good idea for saving some cash in the long run would be to get the 450R, YFZ450, or '05 style Z400 shocks. Since those are rebuildable, you could have them resprung and revalved for your setup and save some cash as opposed buying a set of aftermarket shocks.

A good one for the rear, if you can find one since they are getting pretty rare now, is the 2001 660 Raptor rear shock. Only the 2001 will fit, and it would be a good idea to have it rebuilt, and have them replace the reservoir hose with a 250R type hose(the longer length of hose will give you more mounting options).

You can find basically all of the stuff I have mentioned on EBay for pretty fair prices. You could also take a look through the For Sale forum.

The 400ex swinger is a simple mod really, I helped my friend do it. The chain was a little off so we just shimmed it as much to the right as we could. We made deffiant sure that the linkage mount that he welded on was center and at the right degree.

yes the 400ex front end bolts right up except the shock which require the relocater bracket, but yes you should use 400ex spindles.

i used 400ex a-arms and spindles on my 300, never had a problem. you will have to use relocator bracket for shocks like said above.

the toolbox from a 400 will fit a 300 :D

Valve stem caps interchange:uhoh: So do the rims off of a 400, 450, and the 250x's as long as they arent the 87's. When I put 400ex a arms on my 250, I had to put some washers inbetween the arm and mounts so they didnt slide forward and back while riding.
