How do u adjust the idle speed on a 400ex? I think my idle is set kinda low cuz it sorta sputters and coughs like its gonna die when its idleing and sometimes it will die, but usually when i just start it up. I think it just needs to go up a tad, it acts like its not gettin enough gas at an idle or somethin
Its kind of hard to explain but its on the carburetor. You should start the quad up and you turn the knob with pliers or a flathead screwdriver till you reach the idle you want. I'm sure someone else can give you a better description of what you have to turn I just cant explain it.

You dont have to take off anything, all u need is a screwdriver...its really noticeable it hangs down from the carb and the screw is really big.

i read in another thread, about turning it until it stops getting to a higher rpm, then lower it back down a 1/4, idk....what should i stay away from, can u mess up by turnin it to high or anything?

I don't have my quad in front of me so maybe I'm slightly off.
Look at where your choke is....look to the right of that.....You will see a large knob/screw about as big around as a dime (Maybe a little smaller). You can normally turn this with your fingers.

i've noticed on my old 400 that it helps if you adjust it a little, then rev it up some. cause if you don't, it won't do nothing for a turn or so, then it'll rev way up, cause you went too far

can it mess anything up if u set it too high or too low, or is it just a personal preference
