ok some of you might have saw my thread about being mad about my motor work thats late. well i just got a call from the shop about 10 min ago. the plan was to bore it to a 416. well the machanic calles me up to tell me that my motor already has a 440 kit installed :eek2: the guy i bought this bike off of NEVER said anything about it being bored out. i am so screwed now cuz i had already bought the parts for the 416 piston everything. he also tells me my crank is compleatly done. and its goin to cost 1100 to get it running again. i was so pissed i just told them forget it put the head back on im picking it up. i have no idea what to do now.

you should be able to return the 416 parts, but that sucks about the crank

you sure they know what they are talking about? i would probably bring it to another shop and see if they say the same thing.

that sucks but hey how much was the bore for the 416 suppposed to cost with parts and everything

07-21-2005, 02:57 PM
btw, the crank might not be bad, this IS a dealer or shop, afterall

i dont know whats goin on, they just called and said its a 440 and the piston i gave them wont work they have to re-sleeve it. im just going to pick it up and see what i can do. does anyone know of a company that has a piston that over bores the 440 just a little bit, just to get the compression back?

how much would that stroker cost me?

BUY ANOTHER STOCK ENGINE OFF EBAY! it should save you alot of money and just keep the 416 parts for when you want to upgrade this engine.

I would take it to another shop to get an estimate. It seems kinda wierd to me that the previous owner didn't mention that it was a 440.

or just find a stock bore cylinder get it bored to your 416. Don't sweat the small stuff man, there's always a solution.

well i think what happened was the original owner sold it to the guy that i bought it off of. the guy who bought it off the original owner didnt know much about quads and was afraid of it, so he sold it to us, with out telling us about the bore. right now im eather goin to buy a new motor or if the bore isnt to bad i can get a 440 over-bore piston from C&D. i guess ill see what happens

If you got money to burn you could get a 450 or 465kit from Duncan racing.

haha yeah i dont have the cash to burn, i found a crank for $130 i have to ask the shop what the cylinder measurements are and Colby at C&D is goin to see about a piston for me.

when i bought my 250r, the guy had no idea that it had a ct 330 kit installed

it seems to me that if you have a motor with a big bore kit, its one of those things you mention  owell. i guess things are lookin a little better since i checked out my options. i guess ill be putting in an 89.5mm piston. i guess its kinda cool in a way i have a 440 but it still sucks that i gotta spend more cash. i think it will be a good learning experiance since im doin the work my self. hopefully everything goes good. the only thing im really mad about now is the fact that i won't be ridin for a few more weeks after sitin out for 2 months.

another bad thing is i gotta leave to go on vacation saterday, so i wont be able to look at it for at least a week. right now i just want to stay home and forget about goin anyware so i can just work.

You must have never ridden a stock-bore 400ex to see the difference in power then, right? Because the 400ex really is pretty tame. There is a noticeable difference, lol, obviously between a 440 and a stock bore-- too bad you didnt realize. But hey, cant complain having a 440!

if your not to attached to the quad why not part it all out and upgrade to the 450R. If your ride is in good shape then you should get good money for the parts. Only prob is you will be without a ride for quite awhile. Just an idea

yeah i never new it was a 440 i just figured it was a stock bore since no one told me anything about the 440. i just thought my freinds 400 was slow . i would part it out but i wouldnt make half enough to get a 450 and since im only 15 and makin about 150 a month i cant really afford a new bike.

well depending on if they had to bore the cylinder it self or not...you should be able to put a stock sleeve in there and bore it to a 416 al for a couple hundred $...don`t get the thing for 1100$...you can get a 500 kit for 800$...and you will get the cranks an all...or get a used crank and a used cylinder for like 300$..or just get a new motor...over boring the 440..depending on what sleeve you have, might not be a good idea cause the sleeve will be to thin and could snap ( like mine did )

I needed a new rod anyway so I just got the 500 lol
