Can someone explain the instulation of a timing chain on a 400ex? What do you have to do to get to it.. ect..

drain your oil....take your clutch cover off then pull your head cover off and loosen your cam sproket bolts and then on your bottom end pull the stuff out that is in your your way...i think your oil pump and maybe a gear that goes to your clutch i cant remember....its perdy straight forward...you might wanna buy a shop manual for it so that you get the gears lined up the right way...not hard i just dont remember what way they go....but make sure when u put it back together u have it timed right...when i put mine back together i only had 3 or so days left before a race and i didnt have it timed correct and i bent 2 new intake valves...i did end up gettign it timed right for the race though

Can anyone tell me able how long it will take to put a new one in if i have a manual handy?

Does anyone know where(web site) i can get a cheap but reliable cam chain, Im running a 440ex so i may want a very strong one for motor condititions? Please let me know. Thnaks.

a lot of people run the CRF 450 dirtbike timng chain. it is one link wider. if you go to the FAQ forum here you will see a topic on the first page that talks about timing chains. it will give you a part number for the chain. you can get it from www.servicehonda.com when you get the part number
