View Full Version : What would you change or improve?

I'm kinda doing some research and need input from anybody that has the time.

If you could improve any part on your ATV, aftermarket or not, to make it perform better, what would it be? I'm not really asking HOW to improve it, just asking what part of your bike do you think could be better than it is now and the solution is not currently offered for sale.

My own suggestion is the rear suspension. I think the technology we have now is very primitive. I believe there is a much better design just waiting to be invented. There should be a way to get much greater wheel travel, more adjustability, more traction (when needed), and better cornering. Go to a dirt oval race and watch the late models run. They have a rear suspension that WORKS for thier application. I just think that there are better things to be discovered.

Don't be afraid to reply. I know that everybody that rides has something on thier bike they think could be improved. No flames or anything, just a good clean discussion.

id agree, suspension is the one area manufactures have made better lately, but it is still not in the same league as it could be.

suspension!!!!!!!! The motor's are the best they can be from a factory. You can't hold close tolerances on a zillion motors. I think they need to improve the suspension.

like others said up top suspension and power...

but...saftey...i mean for god sakes your paying 4, 5, 6, and 7 grand for a quad...they could atleast put on nerfbars...after having nerfbars on my quad, i wouldnt ride w/o them ever again...they are the safest thing ive ever put on any of my quads...and it would be nice to know that they come from the factory that i wouldnt ahve to spend over 165 bucks for a set of them

TCracin440ex-- I'm with you on the nerf bar thing. I'm still deciding weather I want to get just some stock pegs for my 250r and get it done faster, or wait a little longer and spend the money on pro pegs.

I know this isn't about the quads themselfs but I think the manufacturer's need to focus more on giving factory suport. Like what Kawasaki did for a couple years at the gncc races, but take even that to another level.

I don't think it would be any fun buying a quad from the factory that's already perfect , i think buying mods and installing them is one of the funnest things to do besides riding ofcourse. Because you always get excited when your waiting for the big brown truck.

I'd say nerfs too. They should all come with them and they should all have built in heel guards(not plastic either).

Also the lighting. It isn't nearly good enough to be truely safe at night. A better charging system wouldn't hurt either.

id do sumthin different with the 400ex design with the spark plug. you gotta take the whole plastic, and tank cover off. and then you have to have a special wrench to even reach the plug

why do you have to take the plastic off? I don't.. you should try changing the plug on a mojave..

Id have to say some type of suspension and moveable part that dont need greaseing. LOL

And since we dont have that, Honda needs to put grease fitting on stock machines.

suspension and wider a arms

i'd like to see cheaper quads. THey are so expensive i get really frusterated i tell myself i'm going to quit riding these damn things. They need to improve atv technology all around if you are looking at it from a racing aspect. They need to improve suspension, weight, and handling in some areas. Even if they do never change quads i'll still keep riding

on a 400ex more protection i mean theres nothing under it but a lil thin piece of metal on the swingarm and a plastic piece coverin the motor, also they would need to figure out a different locknut design for the axle i figure thats why my carrier bearings keep goin out , the nut will back off a lil and give the axle play that moves all the way through the carrier and the bearings, not to mention a decent set of bearings cost around 60 bucks

i think the indipendent rear would still powerslide well, but give a much smoother ride. maybe im wrong but i think it would be great for them to atleast try it and let us decide!:D

a handle bar pad w/ a metal spike sticking out of it in case you hit your head

i don't think quads need long travel front ends cuz I've went a long ways on mine and havn't had any problems:confused:

a eject button

I think they could loose some weight.

and as for the technoligie in the motor being good...well it`s alot better then the EX....but look a street bike, 600cc motor can make 80hp easy...stock...I think a stock 450 should have more then 35 :huh

light weight aluminum frames, better long travel suspension, EFI high rev DOHC VTEC with like 50-60 hp..know that is a motor  and weight like 300 pounds

600cc 80+ hp is comming from 4 cylinders not one

44oEX
07-22-2005, 06:15 PM
still there is only 600cc...cc`s make power not the number of cylinder...some 4`s make as much power as v-8`s ( car not bikes )

and even at that if you want to use the same cylinder numbers...a 1600cc civic make around 90-100 hp ( hatch back ) and a 1000cc bike ( R-1 ) make around 180hp...a hyabusa (1300cc) make what like 220 ???as much a a prelude ( 2000 or 2200)

the bike technologie is alot better then everything else
