what type of fuel do you guys use or perfer. me personally I use Vp- U4 or C12.

what compression do you have? i still have stock engine so I just use 93

07-20-2005, 12:36 PM
yeah i use 93 and some times mix it 50/50 with race gas. just because it smells good lol

i use 50/50 c12/93 with a 12:1 piston. u4 is all good except any oxigynated fuel will cause pre mature corrosion inside your motor. it runs good on it but the aftermath can be drastic.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: woh i didnt know that, are you sure, i thought oxygenated gas was better for your mottor, all the race teams use it, and werent they starting to oxeygenate pump gas, thats scary

ha ha. I do the same thing. but like a 93 mix c14 because that is all I have. lol I mix it like 75% 93 and 25% c14.

i run regular 93 pump gas with my 11:1 compression piston

oxeygenated gas is supposed to run cleaner

yes pump gas is slightly oxygenated, and oxygenated fuels should BURN cleaner. are you familiar with the term oxidation. this is when materials, specifically metals react with oxygen and form rust or corrosion. even aluminum corrodes. if you don't do frequent tear downs on your motor (like all the pros) then you will notice that when you do tear your motor down there will be signs of oxidation inside your motor when you use oxyginated fuels. oxidation is not suppose to happen inside a motor. there ARE power gains associated with these fuels, and they are beneficial to performance, but the price you pay for performance gains is sometimes not worth it. just my opinion. take it as you will.

my go kart runs on methinol. I rebuild the carb everyweek (sucks) and there are always signs of corosion from that stuff. it is some nasty stuff.

I don't get it.

In that link to your other thread, the first post was showing the horrors of OXY fules and later in the thread you said that you were running U4 (which is oxygenated).

^^^Can you please clear this up.^^^

(OXY is bad for your engine but good for power?)

Yes it will do that to a motor, no I have not torn my motor apart to see it because the season is not over yet. BUT the power increase is COMPLETELY noticeable! Like I had mentioned in that thread, I went from a 110 unleaded non oxy fuel, did 3 laps with the 110. Then went back to the trailer with an empty tank, then filled with the U4. When I went back out on the track, litterally I could clear jumps that I could NOT clear before because the power just was not there. I am a firm believer in something that proves itself to me even if I have to clear my exhaust side out every once and a while. That is why I run it because it does perform better. Lpus the U4 Runs cooler... Does that all make sense now? But yes I was swearing at it and swearing by it at the same time:devil:

I run straight VP C-12 (just bought a huge barrel of it). I used to also run Cam 2 most of the time but they stopped selling it around here

Yea, oxegynated fuel will cause more corrosion. Simple chemistry common sense will tell you that if you think about it.

Rust/Oxidization requires oxygen.

When the fuel is burned the oxygen gets used. But when the engine is off.. any excess fuel still has oxygen in it, causing metal to oxidize. It would be a lot like pulling out your spark plug, and pouring a small amount of water into your cylinder and letting it sit outside.

It's basically the same as running alcohol with regards to corrosion.

More power for sure.
More wear and tear from the additional power and heat.
More prone to corrosion.

But, if you purge out the system like you would an alchohol engine you should have a pretty reliable engine.

A lot more maintinance, but a definate edge for anyone who races TT's, MX, Drags ext. It's kinda like putting a tiny bit of NOS in your gas. Bit less of an edge in XC of course.
