I am new, and this is the first time ive ever posted. I have and ride a kx85 with all of the goodies and it seems still to slow for me I am thinking about getting a 450R or a YFZ to up the speed a little. I havn't had alot of time on quads but i pick up learing quick, and ive drivin a quad before. I also don't exactly like the whole two stroke maintience thing because my KX is sitting in my garage needing a jug, and a top end set. I was wondering what you guys thought because i think a 400EX, or a z400 would be to slow.

I have a few friends who race yz85's. They have no problem riding my MX 450r! I guess it really depends on your size and riding ability.

That is a BIG jump up buddy. Not saying that you couldn't handle it, but a 450r or a yfz has some serious power gains over a kx80. However, I had a 250EX before I had my 450R, and that also is a huge jump in power and performance. I wont lie, it was a little hard to handle at first cuz of the increase in power, and im 5'10'' 185 lbs. A 400ex is slow, a Z400 is not. The Z's have a lot more to offer than the EX's right now. If I were you I would go with a z400. If you do get one of the 450's BE CAREFUL. They are dangerous to the inexperienced or youthful rider.

Yes i know it will be a big step up but my 85 has 28.5 HP, and a 400EX dosn't have much more but it weighs more so i figyured it would be alot slower also it is air cooled which means it probley won't be runing cool. But i'm up for the challange and i want something that will scare me a little at first. I'm small only 5'1' 120 pounds but i think i can handle it. I think as long as i don't go full bore for a while i'll be rippin in about a week!

A z400 is not that much faster than a 400ex. If you are going to get a 400 go with the 400ex because they are extremely reliable. You seem a little lite to be able to hold onto the 450's but if you ride smart you should be ok.

my friend weighs around 110lbs and has no problem racing his 450r. and i got a 450r comming from a blaster and i raced my 450 3 days after i got it and had no problems at all. i would definatley get a 450r if i was you.

Thanks for the support. I figured that everybody on here would be like a 14 year old that weighs 120 pds is never gonna be able to handle it get a 250ex or something. Now I just have to find a time to go to the dealership with my mom. She told me she would get me a 400EX but i don't know how she'll take to the extra 1000$ for the 450. Now theres only one question YFZ or TRX what are the differences. I like the feeling of a two stroke powerband and I heard the the YFZ has that kind of powerband. I'm kinda leaning twards the YFZ now, and do you guys think i would be able to kick the TRX over? I am very fit I ride my bycicle more than i ride my dirtbike anymore now that I think about it.....................about 8 miles a day! but if i stall in a rut or somthing it would be a pain. anyway thnx for the help guys!

Now that i'm reading it over I just realized I ask alot of questions!

u shouldnt have ne problems kicking it over im 14 and race harescrambles and if i stall it in the woods i can usaully fire it up 1st or second kick

COOL! i've been thinking about harescrambles are they really hard? I do alot of trail riding, and i can jump so I figured It would fit me better than MX i tried a MX track a couple time and i always wad up.

if you race harescrambles and get a 450r then put a 13 tooth front sprocket on it. i race in the missouri harescrambles series and there are a couple of hard tracks but not really hard

How long are the races? and if i've never raced before will i get ran over and killed or is it easyer than i'm thinking

DJJ450r

its easier than ur probably thinking. i doubt u get run over or even hurt jus pull over for people when they tell you to move. the races are between an hour and a half to 2 hours long maube a little bit longer but not much

i'd say got ahead and get a 450. if ya get a 400, in a few months you'll be wantin a 450

as far as which 450....ride both of them, then decide. don't go off of what people on here tell you which is best, cause the best bike is different for different people, in my opinion. and if ya can help it, ride two that have about the same amount of mods.

but i got the yfz after riding both 450's a few times, and the yfz was a lot easier for me to get used to. also i liked the power and looks of the yfz more. and i was riding a 400ex before, btw.

i went from a mojave to a fully modded mx 250r which is acually faster than my 450r and i didnt have much trouble...however that was with 9 years of riding experience..i think you you'll fine with the 450...do what sampleez said and ride both, i didnt ride both and although i am extremely happy with my 450r i wish i tried the yfz...

buy the r, it's not like you have to ride it balls out all the time anyway. you can ride it to your comfortability, and it won't hurt it. then you will get faster. it's nothing like riding a two stroke like you are probably used to .

def . go with the 450r , i bought a 300ex 5 months ago and after 2 months of riding i coulld pown my quad . so i bored it out and yet i still find it incredibley slow , o and btw i havent lost 2 a 330 or 400ex since i bored it out ! so i guess what im saying is get a 450r and learn to ride a quad and take it easy the first month then when you get confident you can own just about every1

it's not loud at all. you will probably want to put an aftermarket pipe on it eventually.

TaMaQua04

Dont let anyone talk you out of what YOU want. This is going to be the bike you will be riding not them. I do suggest if you get it.. Get used to it before you do anything stupid. This bike is amazing I love mine and wouldnt trade it for anything. Dont let anyone scare you about kickstart (its easy) Mines a 04 and I havent had one problem yet. You will enjoy this bike, but you mite want to wait and see what the 2006 450r's have to offer:)

I'm sorry on this one guys you must forgive me, but a kx85 should accelerate quite a bit faster than a 450 quad, especially in the mid to top end. It kind of sounds like you are getting a 450 quad to get something faster. If you want something much faster get a 125 two stroke or a 250 four stroke dirt bike. A good running kx85 rips with the right riding on it.

Nothing against the 450 quads, I have one, but as far as acceleration is concerned a yzf250 or crf250r should smoke it with equal riders.

i could never fit on a 125 or a 250f i'm only 5'1
