please help me (Sprocket)

i wanna beat my frends z400 i smoke him on the quater mile by about the length of one bigrig and a fullsize truck but at half mile drag he smokes me by a quad lengh at the very end, so basically all i need is more top speed so i got the 16t sprocket in the front i wanna change the back sproket but i dunno either to get the 37t or the 36t please help fast cause im going to pismo beach with him in two weeks right now my gearing is 16/38 and i want either 16/37 or 16/36

i run a 16/36 on my 400ex it has some top speed. try that combo you should beat him. if you dont youll need a set of 22s in the back

all i have on my 400 is the CHM Pipe, moose jet kit (im running a 146 jet), K&N with outerwears and currently running with no airbox
so i installed the 36t sprocket in the back and damn i loss a hell of a lot of acceleration mabye a little too much so is it just me or should i throw in the 15t back in the front or should i just buy the 37t for the back , i still havent raced my friend :confused:

i would beef up the motor more first so you can pull the higher gearing better ;)

Don't buy another sprocket unless you got endless money. Your quad won't likely pull that kind of gearing in top gear.

so if i replace the 16t with the 15t to make 15/36 gearing would that give me just a little more acceration or is it like the same as i use to have it at 16/38 gearing

cause 16/38 was not enough top speed
but 16/36 was not enough acceleration
so im thingking :ermm: that
15/36= solved problem

no i have no air lid right now ,and its more like 10 or 15ft that he beats me but only on a drag of 1/2 mile or more, if its a 1/4 drag race i smoke him by about 50ft but then again i only had 16/38 gearing

what i wanna do is smoke his z400 everywhere ,so i bought the 36t for the rear hoping to get some more top end so i can smoke him ,but now i think its too much top end or is it just me?

hahaha very funny :tired: but theres a difference between smokin and beating if ya smoke him then its gotta be a good 2 quad lenghs away , beating is if your opponet is any closer than 2 quads away

With your taller sprockets, your motor will not be able to pull that gearing in fifth gear unless you are going down hill. You will likely lose some top end. Don't bother with sprocket changes, I've been there and done that, work on your motor.
