I have a qusetion about the Honda 300ex and the 250X. I'm new to this and i don't have very much knowledge about what is interchangeable parts wise between the two. From what i gather the 400ex will not fit either models. Why am i asking this, because i want to build my own machine. I do dirtbikes and know alot about them or building drag cars and engines, but quads are a little diffrent. I have been told by friends that you are the people to ask. Any help would be great!!! I may also be looking for some parts and a frame. Thanks

almost all parts on the 250x and 300ex are interchangable. There are still some parts on the 400ex that will work on either a 250x 300ex. Evan some 250r parts will fit on all of these machines
parts you can take from 400ex & 250r:
Carb(Only 400ex)
a arms
shocks
tires rim(same bolt pattern)

then pretty much everything one the 250x and 300ex is the same exapt for the engine

The 250x and 300ex use the same head, and if I remember right, the only difference in the engine is the 300 has a longer stroke to get the 282cc's with the same bore as the 250x. Other differences were kick start (250) vs electric (300), and the one model year (86 or 87) then the front and rear bolt patterns were the same on the 250x.

The 400ex shocks can be MADE TO FIT on the 300, but you'll have to fab the top shock mount on the 250x/300ex frame to get them to work. As for the a-arms I've heard both yes and no, but several guys on here say they have them on a 300 frame, so the real answer must be yes.

Another engine option for the 250x/300ex frame is a 350x engine from a trike. But just the engine will run you $1200 minimum. I've seen 350x engines that were blown up listed for $1200.
