View Full Version : Anybody have a 295 big bore??

i just ordered a la sleeve big bore sleeve and the piston for it and they said it will bump my cc to 295, does anybody have this setup?? and will i need a bigger carb??

I believe most "310" kits are actually 295cc, and can reach up to 310cc with overbores.

Sure, you can run your stock carb on anything you want, even a 500cc if you desire. You just won't get maximum performance, but you'll get great throttle response.

You would probably see a good 5hp increase on the top end with a larger carb, but that doesn't necessarily mean you HAVE to run a larger carb. The stocker will still run just fine.

thanks wilkin, i am kinda in the dark on this thing i have a spare cylinder hat is 80 over and my runner was 80 over so i decided on this setup since they where both punched as far as they would go and i wasnt shure on it

anybody else run this?

I was running that set up last year.

Your stock carb will NOT work. The monster will stave gas and you can seize the piston. Get a 38mm carb, k&n filter, and of course the pipe to match the port done on the cylinder and get ready to fly......

This set up is actually really good. I was very happy with it.

Well if you ran the stock carb wouldn't you not get enough gas? And like he said, seize it up?

It's called jetting, folks. You need more fuel, you get bigger jets. You may also possibly need to run a different needle profile.

I can run my 340cc on my stock carb, I'm pretty sure he'll be okay with the 295cc.

i have a fmf gold series fatty and have been running k&n since the begining of time

do you know roughly about how much the jetting will change??

Frst, Wilkin is somehow right. But not completely.

Yes, you can use your stock. The question is, will you get the best performance with the new bore size? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Try to run that stock carb wide open with the biggest jets for a few minutes. Then you will come back saying I blew the piston.

Even if you go to the biggest size jets you can fit in a stock carb, the new 295 will not work at it's full potential and you are just asking for troubles.

My friend has a dyno and we have done several experiments. This is one of them.

You already invested a bit of money going big bore. Protect that investment. You can get a 38mm carb on eBay for a fraction of the cost of a new one. You won't regret it.

do i want a oval or a round slide carb or does it matter

Most people don't use carbs with the round slides.

Get either a PJ (oval) or a PWK (wedge).
I ride mostly desert and was recommended the pwk.

I have used both and I noticed a better low/mid response with the PJ.

From what I understand, the flatslide is supposed to produce better throttle response. I'm not sure of the physics behind it.

I'll admit, I've never run a 295cc with a 35mm carb, but even so, I can't imagine a 180 being too small.
