my 2001 300ex was having trouble starting so i tried to pull start it.....it worked then after it ran for a little bit it just shut off...when it was running i wasn't even touching the gas and it was revving really high.....i think its just getting too much gas to the engine but i cant figure out why....i tried taking the carb apart and cleaning it, any ideas on what to adjust on the carb or if it might be anything else? thanks

Just sounds like the carb needed cleaned, or you have an air leak. Make sure your intake is sealing properly.

I had the same problem, because I was having jetting trouble so I was constantly tearing the carb apart to change the jetting and neetle so one day I was just riding it and first it wouldnt idle and the throttle just stuck wide f***** open. After trying to replace the throttle cable thinking it was hangin up on something. My mechanic took it apart and saw I broke a piece off in carb that makes the engine idle and it jammed up the throttle. I dont know if thats you problem or not. If you get yours to stop just take it easy to make sure it wont go wide open because it happened to me and it flipped back and bent my silencer and header and also cracked my front left fender the whole way to the tank...so be easy for a while. ok:macho
hope this helped.

check your idle screw on the carb. You can get to it from the left side of the bike. You dont have to take the carb off just turn the big gold screw until the RPM's die down. That should do it.
