Redwood County Fair grounds hosted the first showing of the entire Akraix Entertainment team. Jon Guetter, Derek Guetter, Garret Engelstad, Caleb Moore, Josh Normington, Steve Weissinger, Jesper Rosling, Austin Wilson, and with Kelly Chang in all of our hearts. With the weather holding off and a packed house of over 4,000 fans for two shows; this looked to be the best show in ATV freestyle history. Akraix Entertainment and Transworld Quad Magazine were both covering this freestyle event for their new videos.
A massive 18 ft tall landing was constructed along the front stretch of the Redwood Falls Speedway. Four different ramps were positioned at insane gaps for the show. The Big Sac trailer ramp was at 50 ft, Jon’s flip ramp was at 45 ft, the orange crush ramp was at 80 ft, and the LGN trailer ramp was at 45 ft. A constant flow of riders and big tricks off of all these ramps had the crowd on there feet for the duration of the show.
The show started off with all the riders coming out and launching off the ramps. All the riders stopped in front of the crowd to be introduce by Trent Teigen and Bart Engelstad. All the riders dedicated the show to our fallen friend Kelly Chang and his family. The crowd was already going crazy. There was not an empty seat or one fan sitting down. This energy being produced from the crowd set into the riders and the show began.
Steve Weissinger, Jesper Rosling, Josh Normington, and Garret Engelstad were the first riders to perform there aerial antics for the crowd. Each rider hit a ramp then stopped and thanked there sponsors and pump the crowd up. One rider would then perform a 6 jump run throwing down his biggest trick. Steve Weissinger was first up and stunned the crowd with Dead Injuns and other big “over the bar” tricks. Next, was Jesper Rosling all the way from Sweden. Jesper threw out perfect Superman Seat Grabs in his run. Josh “Big Storm” Normington came out charging the ramps hard. He performed insane Cat-Nacs and Superclickers to perfection in his run. Hometown boy Garret Engelstad came out with an insane Deadbody Twist. A new trick to the freestyle world that you have to see to believe. With flawless runs being thrown down, the crowd was still on there feet cheering.
Following the riders runs all 8 riders came out and hit the ramps for an intense expression session. A great thing I experienced from a riders point of view was that, when I threw down a Holyman I could hear the crowd scream as I let go of the handlebars and floated above my machine. It was a great feeling that made me push myself even more for the restless crowd. All the riders were killing the ramps and the crowd was loving it. A short break was taken after this session to throw out free Akraix Entertainment t-shirts and other merchandise. The newly released clothing line has been selling out at all of the shows, and looks to be a big seller online when the Akraix Online store is opened to the public. It is packed full with men and women’s clothing, as well as hats, jerseys, lanyards, posters, and graphics kits.
After everyone threw a few shirts to the crowd it was time for Caleb Moore, Derek Guetter, and myself to perform our individual runs. After thanking our sponsors I was first up to perform my run. I had a pretty smooth run with some big tricks. Next was Derek Guetter who received an overwhelming ovation from his hometown crowd. Derek comes out with his signature SuperDolphin trick. Derek’s Heartattack Seatgrabs are done beyond perfection. Caleb Moore finished off the individual runs with his insane Double Superman Seat Grabs and other big tricks that he has learned in the short 5 months he has been practicing freestyle. This was his 5th session of jumping a freestyle ramp, and he already has more tricks than almost everyone in the FQX industry.
With the individual runs finished the riders prepared for the same trick train session. This always shows to be the most intense part of the shows. The riders are literally a few feet from each other 30 ft in the air performing impossible feats on there quads. Jesper and Steve were going off the LGN ramp together at 45 ft, Garret and Josh where hitting the Big Sac ramp at 45ft, and Derek Caleb and I were launching the 80 ft orange crush ramp. The final train was followed immediately by Jon Guetter performing his infamous back flip. All the riders came together and celebrated with burnouts and a lil CV boys action(OHH SNAP). Following the show was an autograph session outside the speedway. We were mobbed by fans for about an hour before we were informed that there would be a second show that night because almost 2000 people did not get into the show because of how many people attended the first show.
With the second show under the lights beginning all the riders were worn out. The second show went off the same format as the first show. Everything was going smooth until I came up a little short on the big 80 ft jump. I flipped over with the quad as we bounced down the landing. I dislocated my leg from my hip and lost my vision for a little while. I was pretty depressed to learn that I destroyed my brand new One Industries helmet that I had just received a few days before the show. I had to stay in the hospital overnight, but I was told the rest of the show was a great success.
Thrills, spills, and a great crowd made for an amazing show that will go into the record books. The entire Akraix Entertainment team has proven itself to be a great group of riders who are pushing this sport to get the recognition that the extreme side of the ATV world disserves. Great things are still to come from the Akraix team. Be looking for the Akraix video to be released later this fall. It will be setting a new standard in all aspects of the ATV world.
