best way to set drive chain is?

I was just wondering if someone could give me some tips on how to set my drive chain, How do I know if its too loose or too tight?

i usualy see if i can stick 3 fingers b/w the chain and swing arm if there is ne more slack its too loose if i can bearly fit 2 fingers its too tight

i just have someone sit on it and then i adjust it to about one inch of play with someone on it
