I just ordered some Elka dual rate front shocks for my 300ex and I am wondering wat to do now. I will be racing in a 91-300 four stroke class and cannot go above on engine size. Should i get a true 300 head, piston, etc, or and exhaust first?

pipe first

the pipe should have been the first thing you did to that bike, that and an aifilter

im not racing until september and wanted to get a jump start on suspension. Why shouldnt i get the head done first, will it not make a difference without a pipe. I found a site online with a Yoshi RS3 pipe for 360. is it worth it?

yoshis are great and the reason you need the pipe first is because the stocker is soooo restrictive that even if you got the port and polish you prob wouldnt even feel it, that plus its very heavy compared to a ti or aluminum pipe make sure you get the full pipe though alot of power is being held back by the small diameter header

yea get a pipe and air filter then get the port & polish. but don't forget to rejet or you'll be SOL come race-time!

people were telling me to stay away from yohsi's because of their high price, but since i found one for a good price should i get that instead of an X-4. Do you know anyone who has reasonable head job prices?

the sparks pipe is great, hmf with white bros head pipe i heard is a great combo too.. If you can get your hands on a TC racing pipe i would go with that, but TC stopped making them for the 300ex a year or two ago so not many people have them for sale.

The whole point of getting headwork done is to increase airflow and remove restrictions. However, right now your exhaust pipe is your restrictive point, and should be addressed first. All the headwork in the world won't make a difference if the exhaust is still plugged up with the stocker on there.

i got a yoshi slipon and it cost about $280, and i also got a wb works header for $110 for my 300ex. they work pretty good.

Suspension was a great move.

Agree 100%

Next get a Uni/K&N/Twin air filter whatever you prefer.

Sparks X-4 is my favorite 300ex pipe. It does awsome with motor mods.

Haven't used a Yoshi.. so i won't say ye or na on it. They seem a bit expensive to me retail though. But if you get a good deal... why not.. Havent heard anyhting bad about them except for price.

But 100% for sure.. Pipe/Filter/Rejet is your next step. Gotta uncork it before you can do any good with head work.

Kinda like blowing through a 1/8" straw with a 2" center section. You aren't gonna get any more air through it.

1) Pipe & Filter (very noticable difference)

2) Then you get the true 300 11:1 w/ Port & Polish, Oversized Valves, and a new Cam. (1 wordm huge. But won't do a dang thing w/o the pipe/filter.)

Nice thing is each of these steps make a HUGE difference on the 300's. The 250x's were Lawerized which bled over into the 300ex's of course.

As a side note.. I really like an MX grind on the 300ex cam. Just had the most where the 300 needs it IMHO. But cams are all personal preference, and everyone has a different riding style.

i didnt even think about any of the restriction thanks for the help. I am going to go with the Yoshi because i got a good deal for 386 header and all. All stainless. plus i already got a K&N. I think i made a good choice with suspension first because better suspension is the key to winning, its not always about power. Especialy in a 91-300 class.

As for good head job prices....

A girl told me she would do a headjob for $10. From what I hear, she does a really good job too. I usually see her on the street corner for some reason.

Very bizarre.:huh
