read my sig for mods. full HMF, k&N with outerwears and EHS racing lid. k&n jet kit, 155 was fouling plugs after a long ride so i switched to 146. Rode the crap out of it sunday in the sand pits. Ran out of gas alot quicker than expected! Plug read at the end of the day revealed totally black plug:confused: I didn't think 146 was really all that big?????:huh

I would say something else is wrong besides your jetting because like you I have an HMF full system. I am running a 160-162 depending on conditions. I am pretty sure that I am real close to perfect and you have to be WAY too lean. I even have the stock airbox lid on.

I think that stock jetting is 148 and with your mods you should be quite a bit higher than that.

Yea, I don't know about a 146. I run a 155 main and all I have is a slip-on, UNI filter and airbox lid on.

what needle clip position are you at? what pilot are you running? how many turns out on the fuel screw are you? you run dynojet mainjets and needle i assume?

yeah, 148 is stock jet so I don't see how its possible that a 146 is too rich. Plus you said you ran it all day then checked the plug color, if you didn't pull the plug and check it as soon as you got done riding it the color won't matter anyway. You can't go by plug color if your pulling it out of a cold engine.

Float level on your carb could be too high.

Also, are you putting in octane boosters? It will turn your plug black wether your rich or lean. Get rid of that crap. ;)

Also you're probably not getting a good plug reading.

To get a reading.
1) Put in a clean plug
1) Ride 100% throttle under load for 15seconds (shift into 4th very early and let it pull its way up, works best for me)
2) Flip/pull kill switch
a) Keep throttle 100%
b) Pull in Clutch
3) Let engine stop under it's own load.
4) Once the quad stops.. you then remove the plug and check the insulator area for color. Do not use the metalic surface for reading.

If you don't do it this way you will most likley get a false rich or lean reading.

You can do the same thing.. for 50% and Idle checks

That is exactly how I checked it before I even rode it. I put it up on blocks, brought it to idle for a few minutes, gave it 1/4 throttle and cut it. Plug read good. Then I put in the 146 dyno jet main, got it going through 3rd, pinned it for a couple seconds and then cut it. Plug read good. So I took it out riding at the pits thinking it was running mint. By the end of the day it was running rough and I was on reserve. I went home and that's when I checked the plug. Whole thing caked black. I took some pics but dont have my camera right now. What the hell could it be???

What is the difference between riding it all day and checking it hot, and then checking it cold?

you need to take it out and get it to top speed. then shut it off and pull in the clutch. roll to a stop. check the plug

answer my previous jetting questions and i will try to help...

his first post said k&n jet kit "which is made by dynojet" which makes his 146 bigger than the stock "kehin" 148.

listen to bwamos, he had a good idea, your float level could be to high... check it out!

What is your needle set at. HMF says to move the needle on clip down and when I did that it is too rich in that area of the throttle. Next I am going back to stock to see if that clears it up.

how can i adjust the float level??? before I had this problem, I had had a problem with gas pouring out the overflow tube. I pulled the entire carb assy and rebuilt it with a new float needle. Still poured out. I backed the overflow screw all the way out and retightened it and it never happened again. maybe something is still wrong???
