hey whats the best air filter out there for the 450r. best preformance, and reliability. I was thinkin UNI.

you might have just activated a FILTER WAR!!!!!!!!!!! UNI is the better filter by FAR, I gained like 10 HP from it alone!

but really, you are'nt going to notice a power difference in a air filter so just get a UNI because they are easy to clean, don't have to clean them as often, and not as expensive. K&N's are GARBAGE!

It depends on what you are looking for in a filter. If you want good filtration a foam filter is the best . But they can cost you about 1.5 hp on a high hp engine. If all you want is HP then a KnN is the best but it does let a little dirt thru. The choice is yours both filters have to be matched to the engine with correct jetting.

Save you money and keep your stock one.

Can anyone produce a good dyno on a k&n filter where it produced more power on a quad???

I do dyno testing all day long. Getting .2 to .5 hp is a big deal when trying to get Pro level hp. Any time your engine is requiring more air and you give it to the engine you WILL make more HP as long as your jetting is correct . Why is it you pick up more HP when removing your air box lid MORE AIR FLOW. But it does affect your jetting. I have picked up 1 HP by changing the airfilter to flow more what the engine needed. So spending a few bucks on a larger airfilter to get more hp is a no Brainer

its already been done, go to the uni site they make a foam slip on thingy to go over a K&N kinda like a outerwears but with foam
btw K&N is the best :D

Do you have any dyno charting "proof" of a k&n over a stock filter, preferably on a trx450r. I would love to see it.

no filter is the fastest.

I run a Uni and I do like it alot. It's a good filter and is very cheap. The K and Ns are sposed to be good until you clean them, from what I've heard when you clean them the cloth/foam, wutever, ball up behind the screen and your engine will suck those in. I personally didn't feel any gain from my UNI and I had a K and N on a previous quad and when I put that on I didn't feel anything either.

when my k+n only (first mod) was put on i had to jet up slightly.
my thinking tells me more air needs more fuel to run proper = more power. feel of the bike did not change much if at all but the throttle response was better. this is what most filter companies boast btw not h.p.

I use the curtis sparks filter kit. It is a foam filter design probably a uni with his name on it. haha
