well i jus got another 400ex yestaday from my cusin and its my newest project i got a friend talkin smake sayin he would kill me in a race on my new ex not the one in my sig. heres the mods on my new ex its got a fmf titanium 4 w/ powerbomb header, k&n filter, new jets, maxxis surtrak rear tires and pure sports bandits in the front. and renthal bars he got a totally stock 87 xr600. who do u guys think would win. o yea i forgot where racing in a feild where we made a 300ft strip.

if its a tiny 300ft drag you stand a small chance because of the 600s tall gearing but if it was a reg. drag he'd smoke you even if you had the 600 motor in your quad because his bike is lighter

You kids make me laugh. Have you ever ridden anything other than a 400EX?
You must have thought you were going to win, otherwise you wouldn't think he was talking "smake". Just because you throw a pipe and jets on a 400ex doesn't make it a man killer.
One of the guys at work was going on and on about how fast his new 05 400EX was untill I gave him a little lesson about big bore 2-strokes. I'm not trying to be a jerk or put your quad down, because they are very nice beginner machines, rather I'm just trying to better educate my fellow man.
Let's just say that with one loop around my farm track he had a bit of an eye-opener. He now realizes what a 60hp trail quad feels like. He liked it, but wanted his 400EX back. It was to much for him, right now.
It sucks and I've had to do it too, but sometimes you just have to admit that you have the slower quad. NO amount of ferry dust is going to change it. Although that doesn't happen to me all that often around here.

mabie if u read my sig. u would see i just dont have a pipe and jets first of all and a zilla a trail machine please im srry i would love to have 1 but def. not for trails if i lived in the desert i would def get 1 ,u cant use all dat power in trails. plus i havent ridden jus a 400ex, i also rode full aftermarket yfz's, 450rs,250r's,shee's and even a rappy that put out like 88hp but i love my ex because is reliable and is good with me . and i also have ridden a zilla wit a +10 swingarm and a drag pipe dat put out alot more then 60hp like yours. 1 more thingi raced the kid and i won on my 440 but i have to admit he is not the best rider

If you would have looked, you would have noticed that the 500 is in a 250R chassis. So YES, it is a fun trail quad, even raced it in 2hr long, A class hare scrambles for 2 seasons. It never let me down. Pulled it apart for a check-up and it was fine. Ready to rip again. We don't have much sand around here btw. When did it ever become a bad thing to have TO MUCH POWER? That is why there is a trottle.

So basically your saying you put all that stuff in and on your 400EX and it's still slow. :blah:

hey zillla boy how fast does ur quad go jus wondering if u ever got clocked and at wat speed. i got my "slow" 440 to do 82.47 on a stright in maine using my uncles radar gun.

the dyno dosent lie i thought he was b/s wen he told me but then i read a post in here and the same guys that built the motor of the kids in here built my friends and the kids in here puts out like 91 with dual pipes

440 boy, if you were so smart you would know that top speed is relative to gearing. How far did it take you to get up to that speed and how fast do you want to get there. The only time I have ever been hit by a radar gun is at an ice lake radar run. I was clocked and 73mph in 660 ft on ICE. I still had 1 more gear to go and most of the time I was just haseing up the rear wheels.
I was in 4th gear. When I am racing, I gear my quad differently depending on the track and how tight the woods section is and when I am drag racing the tracks are only 300ft long so you never reach top speed. It's all about reaction time, bottom end grunt, and traction. We don't have much wide open forever areas around here, but I'm still waiting to try out my paddle at Silver Lake, MI.

Well since an XR400 is gonna smoke a 400EX I don't think you have a chance against a 600.

cj racer i actually agree with you and u r rite with the hole gearing thing dat day mine was geared for mostly top speed jus to see how fast it could go it took my like 900 or 1000 ft or around there but i thought 82mph is fast for an ex.

and blown331 if u read u would no that i won the race against the xr.

Damn, I guess I shold have read it. That's one hell of a victory, I'd be proud of your bike. I wouldn't have thought you could have pulled it off!

Your 440ex woopin on a XR600 is another stretch...You lookin nealry the same HP and the XR is gonna undercut your weight by nearly 100lbs....One of two things is goin on here.1..That guy you raced was nowhere near capable of racing someone or 2 You're Lying...I'm gonna go with #2...:eek:
