Hey guys, i have out Ninja 600 engine up for grabs in the Parts forsale section, we have decided that we would rather build a 250r from the ground up, part by part. we need to sell or trade the ninja engine, we would like to trade it for a 250r engine cr250 engine cr500 engine, ect... if we get a 250 engine we will build the 250r if we get a cr500 engine we will build something else. Just wondering where most people start, frame, or engine. i know alot of you guys have done this so i know i will get some good heads up. Also what did you end up spending on building your 250r. If anyone is interested in the ninja engine for a trade on any of them engines or to buy it Let me know or check it out at

If you could find one, a complete rolling chassis, if not just start out buy getting a frame first, a-arms, swinger, axle, steering stem, hubs, brake system, ect, ect. Or you could PM thefontmaster he has built a 250r from the ground up(which i must say is pretty badass).

Get the frame first....

Have you thought of putting the Ninja engine in the 250R frame? I've seen bigger engines go in their... but the CR500 engine will be killer, i should know i got one :)

Yes start with frame, ON ebay has CR500 engines.

You will want a 86 frame, that way you can mount the cr500 engine properly and have little to hardly any vibration provided you do it properly.

how does that 500R run? Insane? what year CR motor did you use? how much work?, we need to sell this engine before we do anything...

Yes its insane, very insane...

Its a 89 Super Motard Cr500 engine.

Work on the bike itself was very minimal, just some new front mounting brakets with vibration isolation and a cross member under the tank to hold the top motor mount also with vibration isolation.

Teh bottom back motor mount goes thru the swingarm bolt, which is why i said get a 86 frame because the swingarm on that year will allow for you to mount it this way.

ON the engine itself, only thing that needed modifying is lenthening the spline on the kickstarter to move the kickstarter further outward.

PS there is a thread in the 250R forum showing my mount points etc etc etc.
