Ok my friend said he is getting a 426 this winter wich i dont doubt and i had planned on getting a 416 if i had the money. how bad would he beat me if they wre built about the same. i had planned on getting a je piston already got the port and polish and stage 2 cam so all i would need is the piston. i wanted to get a crf450 timing chain, also are hd studs realy needed for just a 416

The difference is not that big between the 416cc and the 426cc given that they both have the same compression ratio. A 416cc with 11:1 compression will run about par with a 426cc with a 10:1 compression. Anything above 10:1 will need the HD Studs or it'll blow the head gasket and also would need race fuel or it will detonate. Go first with the 416cc so that later you can later bore up to 426cc if you ever have to rebuild your engine.

Hope this helps!

lol. i would say you only need hd studs if you are only running a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher. it doesnt hurt to put them in though, just not needed. you do not need race fule unless you are runnig a very high compression piston. a compression ratio of 11:1 or lower, 93 octane would be sufficent. also, with the 426 bore the stock sleeve begins to get pretty thin, so it might not be a bad idea also to put in a new one.

My 11:1 426 blew a headgasket within a gallon of gas because I did not put H-D headstuds in. And no, it does not require race gas. 93 would be fine, with maybe a splash of octane booster every now and then, but still not even required.

BTW, I resleeved my cylinder because it's always better to be safe then sorry.
