i took the parking brake assembly off my 400ex today and i was wondering do you really need to have a block off? it doesnt look like anything could come out if you didnt any one not run one?

the block off is there to protect the pin that is part of the piston. dust, dirt etc can enter there and will eventually trash your caliper.

they are cheap, blockoffs run less then $20

If you go with a P-brake block off you may want to get an after market clutch perch and lever because the part on the stock clutch perch that you move to actuate the P-brake will have no tention to keep it from moving.

I have a MSR CR125r adjustable perch ($30) and MSR CR125r clutch lever ($10).

yeah i already have an aftermarket clutch perch. the original owner just left the P-Brake wire on it tucked under the hood

That works out good. Now all that you have to do is get the block off and your set!

sorry to steal the thread but if you got a dirt bike perch what would pull back the reverse cable on a 300ex

What I have done is this, http://www.atvriders.com/articles/reverse300ex.html , it works really well and then if you remove your parking brake you only have the clutch and then with that mod (the link), it allows you to go into reverse without pushing in the button, just lift up on the lever. And make sure you are in neutral when you want to go into reverse, i have heard it may cause damage in gear.
