i need to replace my clutch. ive never done it before but i have access to a service manual. it looks fairly easy but i want to make sure there isn't anything that i will get hung up on.
if i get hd springs will it change the clutch pull?

just buy yourself a torque wrench and follow the manual, take your time and you'll be fine.

its an easy job, and the HD springs make the clutch pull a little firmer, i noticed some anyways..

what about that special tool. that held your clutch plates

Use an impact and you don't need to worry about the special tool. If you want to buy that tool, Honda charges over $100, Motion Pro was I believe over $50 and it was just like a pair of vise grips, it didn't work very good. I think the torque specs call for 80 lbs, I don't think that Motion Pro tool would hold it still enough for 80 lbs or torque IMO. Just use a impact or air ratchet, worked fine for me.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
