What kind of racing? GNCC or GNC?

For MX, prolly
gusseted frame (if not, an aftermarket frame) and gusseted subframe (again, or aftermarket)
Full Blown 426 or 440 (including piston, port n polish, crank, rod, cam, rockers, valves, valve springs, pipe, carb, filter, etc)
A better cooling system (bigger oil tank, bigger oil cooler, air scoops etc)
Long travel, wider a arms
+1.25in swingarm with new shock linkage
Top of the Line front shocks w/ rezzys and fully adjustable
Top of the Line rear shock w/ rezzy and fully adjustable
Wider axle with new lighter hubs (or hipers with integrated hubs)
ligher front hubs
beadlock rims
MX tires
nerfs
killswitch
numberplates

the rest is personal preference, but thats prolly the minimum of things you'd have to do in order to compete on a 400ex at a pro level...

For GNCC, same things, except not any wider.

Even with all that stuff it still wouldnt be a pro machine, Decent b or c class quad though. The 400 would still be a lot heavier and not rev like the 450's.

a for sale sign - good one
go for a 450 instead, the 400's cant do as good in a race as the 450's can, the 450's handle better, faster, and rev's higher

All the usual stuff but mostly a good rider. You can take a bad rider and put him on the best quad and hell still be bad.

An $3800 receipt for engine work. My buddy spent that much on his and it could outrun TC conversion YZ426 4 wheelers. Oh yeah, that $3800 was spent with Tom Carlson.

I like the gas cap idea as long as the 400ex gas cap will fit properly on a 450r.

all the chassis work and a crf or yzf 450 motor can play with the big boys with a good rider but then its not a really a 400ex anymore

Did he ask about 450s?

Shocks, tires, a-arms, axle, handlebars, enginework.. $$$$$$
