I have a 05 z400 and i changed the front sprocket. Stock is 14 i believe and i changed it to a 15. I was expecting my top end to be faster but it felt slower. I confirmed this when my buddy clocked me in his car and it was slower than before I put the sprocket on. What would cause this? Tight chain, weather, ???? anything else? thanks for help

it might take a little longer to get up to top speed, and it wont make a huge difference but there will be a difference in top speed, but you bottom end power will go down a little. go up to a 16 tooth on the countershaft sproket and see if that gives you the results you want.

It seems like he wants it to be quicker through the gears. I'd suggest a 13 tooth ft sprocket.

The norm is to go to a 13 tooth for trails and such, don't even think a 16 will fit with out some grinding.

14-40 2.85 gear ratio
15-40 2.67 gear ratio
If you want to go faster you went the wrong way, but now you are quicker.

I don't think you understood me!

lower gear ratio=quicker, less top speed.

higher gear ratio=not as quick, more top speed as long as your motor can pull it.

he went from a 14 to a 15 wich should make it have a faster top end....the 2.67 ratio should be faster on top than the 2.85

dude your wrong, it works the same way as a car, a car with 4.56 gears dosnt have much topend but it goes like hell gettin there, and a car with say 2.56 gears will run like hell on top but comes off the line like a dog
