Looks like Polaris is going to release a new sport quad on July 22 http://atv.polarisindustries.com/atv/Default.aspx it is getting interesting in the sport quad world new Raptor 700 improved YFZ 450. Maybe a new Suzuki 450 later this month also and BRP may have a 450 in the wings.

I'm putting my money on: Big bore, fuel injected, and independent rear suspension, in a sport quad.

Hey M. Smiley....Angela here. Spoke to you at the Cross Anchor race. I am the gal xc racing the Predator. Just did Mideast Rockhouse 6 hr team race today! I put in 50 miles of our race and had fun. Hmmmm wonder if they are going to lighten the Pred up any for people like me who are about a foot shorter and not nearly as strong. :D It sure has built up my upper body strength going from a 400ex to the predator. I struggle a little with the ergonomics too when I am standing because it is hard to keep my feet on the pegs and be in proper position with the bars but I love the power mine has and it handles great. I wish you the best in MORE podiums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember something about Polaris and Artic Cat talking to KTM a couple of years ago. I believe it was an acticle in Dirt Wheels. Isn't the limit something like 520 in GNCC? Also Daryl Rath (I believe) uses the KTM 520 in his open class TT. Oh, and that is in a Pred chasis. Who knows, but it would be fun. ;)

I thought the 700 Raptor was a shoe in the ATV of the year for 2006 till I saw a photo of the Outlaw. It is a huge leap forward for ATV design. Polaris has moved the design of the sport ATV into the 21st century while every one else in still using 1970 design. I will be putting money down this weekend if I can.

For the last time, it is not a 450, it is a 500 with IRS and fox rezzy shocks. They are still making the preddy 500, this is a new quad based around the Predator.

I agree!!!!!

It seems the only part of the atv market it will compete with is the predator market.

I would have liked to have seen a 350lb atv with a fuel injected 500cc engine.

Why would Polaris want to compete with themselves?

One_Bad_400
07-22-2005, 10:07 AM
2 things wrong with the bike... #! its 499cc's... why the heck would they make a nother 500cc bike? and it weights 440 pounds... i could see at least 400 becsaue of the IRS... but not 440...

but i tell you what... that would be one SMOOTH ride... i'd love that for trails...so now they need to make the PRED. a 450 to have a track(pred.) and trail(o-law) bike

Why would Polaris want to compete with themselves? thats a good question, I am VERY surprised to see them keep BOTH quads and still keep the same similarities in looks too! I would be interested in riding one, but I take no interest in buying one . I dont see huge sales on that new quad, would be EXPENSIVE to modify too!:eek2:

to tell you the truth i dont like it one bit!,the rear of it doesnt look conventional, but i guess it has to change sometime?i still like the single rear shock swinger look rather then the dual suspension in the back with the a-arms :huh

I think it's going to be a beast in GNCC. The wight will not hurt it much in the woods, and the way the suspension is, it should crush through some rocky, rough trails.....

I would rather see that package with an automatic to replace the scrambler instead of competing against the pred. It would make a great trail quad.

If power and a plush ride is all it takes in the gncc's, why don't we see Brute Force's turning in better times the the sport machines.

This looks like a great 2 wheel drive poker run machine. I bet the price will compare to the big utes though.

I would have been more happy with 700cc but then they could not race GNCC Pro class. If it wins a GNCC race they will sell a ton of them. I still have a downpayment on one. I could drop a 640 or 660 KTM in it:blah:

Just a thought....

Now is polaris going to keep this as thier GNCC quad and take the predator and use thier now KTM merger to make a predator framed/KTM 450 engine for motocross??:eek2:

that way with the 500cc being great for the GNCC engine limit and a known great 450 motor from KTM for the GNC limit.:D

All the specs and ect... seem to be better for GNCC, but I wonder what is the front width. It claims 47.5", but is that the rear or front specs?
47.5 is rather wide in front for local hairscrambles, Ok for the rear though. You will hit oaks and pines like it is going out of style.
I did talk to a guy who claims to test driven one. He was an owner of dealership in SC. He speaks highly of this OUTLAW, with the IRS system. It does make sense from a physics point of veiw, for woods racers. With the higher ground clearance and one wheel should stay on the ground. He siad it stayed in the groove, ruts really well with little to no bump steer that he had never seen on a quad before. with excellant suspension, very plush he claims. He claimed that all the test drivers liked the Outlaw much better than both Predators, without any questions.

He spoke of M. Smiley testing it allot, and given allot feedback with Quad. (So we already know that M. Smiley has been testing it for a while now, maybe he will give us some early feedback with real time data, we will not tell Polaris if you still prefer the Predator. lol) That is always a plus for the woods racers getting someone like him envolved. He said it would be out in about 2 months with a $6400-$6600 price range.
Please keep in mind he is salesman for Polaris (propagnanda may be invloved), but he did seem to know a little about it from a riders and Engineering/desing side of it.

I for one think this might be the perfect quad for me. Hell I love trail riding & exploring. I have a 400ex now and have been thinking of gettin a 4X4 so I can explore the very rutted 4x4 trails. I can get about any where on the EX but it can be alot of work. I don't really like the 4x4 idea except for being able to go camping and haul a bunch of stuff, and the truth is I like to pin it in 5th gear and slide through the corners on the logging roads. I think this thing could be the answer. It looks like a go anywhere sport quad.

Sure I won't be able to put up steep hills but who wants to.

as for racing I think Smiley is going to love this thing at rutted out track like steel creek was this year. I don't know the rules but it would be cool if he could switch back and forth between a pred. and a outlaw.

I'm excited!

This is what I was told about the Outlaw. They had it showing at the Unidilla GNCC race. Production isn't going to start like it was said in Feb- March, but Smiley will be racing one. Well for Smiley to race one, they have to be in production first as the Pro's need to race production quads. So Polaris is sending letters to GNCC racers to see if they want a Outlaw and the name's will be put in a lottery and the first 100 will get one before race season starts. 100 Outlaws is all Polaris needs to put out to be considered to be in production. I don't know when this will all happen, but this is what I was told at the GNCC race.

they're only hurting themselves by delaying it. i was hoping october/november, not sure i can wait till feb/march. they might as well put a KTM engine in it if they're gonna take that long. with this delaying BS i'm wondering if they partnered with suzuki instead?

GE4x4
10-01-2005, 06:46 PM
I think there main reason is to make sure every bug is out of it. It's the first IRS sport quad and they don't want to start off rushing it to production if there are bugs still in it. For me Nov or Feb doesn't meen much due to winter. I would rather get the Outlaw with no bugs late, then get one early with bugs. IMHO

cdrookie
10-01-2005, 07:02 PM
i totally agree but why did they unveil it so soon if it wasn't close to production? alot or racing starts in febuary and i'd like to get some seat time in on a new quad before the season starts. it sucks trying to get the machine set up for you when you're actually racing. every machine has bugs that the factory never expected no matter how much time was spent in development.

Another thing to consider is that we need to give after market guy's time to produce parts to lower the suspension, add better shocks , improved exhaust for hp add on's and nerfs etc

Jake99
10-02-2005, 06:55 PM
I still hope it works.Honda will wait and fix the bugs. Then we will haft to finish it.Then somebody will come up with something else.Honda will straighten that out too. Then we will be going fast then!Like we aint going fast now.In about 10 more years we are going to be going so fast that everbody is in the hospital. Then the gov. make em stop again for 10 more years.
