if i put a 14 tooth front sprocket in my 01 400ex will it really make a somewhat noticable difference? and if i did that do i have to do anything else to it like change the rear sprocket? (i've never messed with'em before, so i have no clue)

if its still the stock sprockets and chain then buy new chain and sprockets because there is a possibility of ruining the new front sprocket. with just putting on a14 it feels a little torqier (sp?)
but if you go to a 14/39 set up hold on tight. youll loose some topend but mine still clocked out at 56mph, who needs that much topend. anyways, with the 14 it felt pretty different give it a try its cheap enough. if you dont like it its as simple as puttin the 15t back on:)

oh ya, extremely simple to do. from a hard level of 1 to 10 id say not even a 1.

Hardest part is probably loosening the chain to take it off the front sprocket, but that is also a "no brainer".

Before my 426, I put a 14 tooth on it really liked it for fast trail riding. But on hillclimbs, where 3rd gear was too tall, 2nd gear screamed out way to quick. With 426, its revs really quick..so I went back to 15.

On a stock 400ex, you should like it.

I got a 14 tooth and used it only in the sand dunes. It made the gearing too short to shoot hills pinned in 3rd for jumping. I felt the need for 4th and the stock motor wouldnt pull it. the stock motor would hold 3rd pinned all the way up for a good little flight and worked alot better than the 14 tooth. keep in mind this is on a stock motor and in the sand dunes.

yea on a stock 400ex motor a 14t front sproket is a great upgrade. it adds alot of torque. but since i built the motor for bottom end i am probably going to put the 15t back on.
