Got a quick question for you all. Is it ok (safe) to run a K&N airfilter with an outerwear at the dunes. Or is it better to run the stock filter? will the K&N block the sand from getting into the engine enough? Have any of you had any problems running the K&N at the dunes?

Thanks

k&n's kick a**! ull have no problem with sand with a k&n. i wouldnt even run an outerwear cause theres hardly any thin dust or water. just be sure to put a light coat of k&n oil on the filter.

Most people I know run the K&N setup and have been for years at the Imperial Sand Dunes and I haven't heard of any filter related problems. Hook it up and have fun.

I would use the outerwear man. If its the least bit windy, you'll need all the protection you can get. What does it hurt.:huh

Always use the outerwears...they do nothing but help. At the dunes if you run with the airbox off a foam filter works better because sand has a harder time getting through saturated foam...plus the foam is thicker. If you run with the lid on...or holes in the lid...K&N w/outerwears works well. K&N will also work without the lif on but the filter itself has a thinner wall and at the off chance that sand can get in...it will get through the K&N faster than a foam filter.

I've run a K&N now for a few years at the dunes. I would definately use an outerwear also.

Whoever posted that there is hardly any fine dust at the dunes, has obviously never been to Glamis on a heavy weekend. The fine dust gets real thick when you got 50,000+ duners all going at it. And if there's no wind, it just hangs and hangs, and never gets blown out. I realize that other dunes may not have as many people, but that's the way it goes over here....

Just my personal experience...

Yeah Glamis is a dust bowl during the season!
I have several outer wears and change them daily when at the dunes! Get one dirty put a new one on while you clean and let the other one dry.

Yah, It's hard to imagine for someone who's never had the experience of Glamis, to explain it. It's just plain madness.

I also have 3 outerwears I take with me, I will usually change them daily, but if there is a breeze going, I let it go for 2 days.

I hear what you are sayin, Glamis, Buttercup, Gordons, on a busy day with no wind I need an outerwear over my face to keep the dust out. I ran a ATC300r for years with a K&N w/outerwears and no airbox and didn't have any premature failures. Keeping a spare or more is always a good and inexpensive way to keep things good and clean.
