I recently got a 01 400 ex and it has a ct racing 440 big bore on it. I need to change my oil and i was wondering if the type of oil matters since it has a big bore on it and how mcuh oil do I use to put in it, and I was also wondering where the oil filter is located at. thanks guys.

use oil that is designed for atv/motorcycles and doesnt contain any friction modifiers (polydenum and teflon for example). honda brand gn4 is what i use in my honda. and i use suzuki performance oil in my kfx. 10W-40. i use the brand oils because they are readily available and you know what your getting.

takes about 1.8-1.9quarts. the oil filter is on the passenger side of the engine and has two 8mm bolts holding on the cover.

When changing the oil filter I use 2 quarts and it seems perfect.

there are also two drain bolts for the engine. You should also warm up the engine before you drain it.

I'm sure you know but just throwing it out there.

yeah i didnt warm itu p lol so it drained slowly and i didnt know theres two drain bolt. I only found one on the passenger side of the engine at the bottom on the side under where two hoses go into. Is it bad that I only drained that one hole?

you probably shouldhave made sure what you were doing before you jumped right into it.....

it's a dry sump system. there is a drain bolt under the oil tank, which is in front of the engine.

i cant remember which side, but there is a 12mm bolt that you much drain also. it's towards the bottom of the engine.

what i would do is warm up the engine, drain all the stuff you put in, and put some new oil in after you drain it properly.

how much oil came out of just the bolt you took out?

The bolt on the rh/ pass side is an oil check bolt, not a drain bolt. There is a drain bolt on the bottom of the oil tank and one on the Left/drivers side below the shifter set back in close to the engine skid plate.

If warm it up at an idle for several minutes and then pull both drain plugs and change the filter you should be able to put 2 qts in. If you got much oil out of the bolt you pulled your machine was pobably over full.
