where and how do you get to the needle to move the clip one space down? thanks

Ok,

First take off the gas tank to get to the carb. Next remove the 2 screws on the side if the carb holding on the black cover on. At this point you can either remove the carb completly by loosening the two clamps and then the throttle cable, (IMHO it is easier if you just remove the carb. It is kind of a pain to remove the black cover and pull out the shaft, (see below) without removing the carb) OR, leave the carb on and just remove the three screws on the slide cover (triangular thing on top). I have done the needle adjustment both ways, carb off and carb on.

After you remove the slide cover, remove the screw holding the arm on, and then slide the shaft out until you can remove the slide arm. (There is a washer on the shaft, and one on the screw holding the slide arm on the shaft so be careful not to loose them.) You have to work at it a bit.
Once you have the slide off, there are 2 screws down in the slide holding the arm on. Remove those and then you will be able to get the needle to drop out.
