What angle would be the best for 400 shocks on a 300?, closer to 90* straight up or more towards 45* outward?
The angle of the shock doesn't matter. You want to place the shock in a place at the arm and on the frame where you can achieve a good leverage ratio as well as leverage curve.

You would want them close to were the 300 shocks were. Depending on how long you a-arms are going to be. TBD was right you need to have a good leverage ratio. On most after market setups a ratio at 2.0 or less is usually good. If you go to www.customaxisshocks.com and download there technical manaul it explains everything you need to know about suspension.
