Right now i use a 10w 40 oil with my stock clutch.........should that be a problem? And when i get a new clutch should i use a different oil?

Also how do you know if you need a new clutch basket?

Oil will be fine, and if you do the clutch yourself just look at the basket, if it has little grooves worn into the fingers then you should probably get a new one. If you have a 99 and its still original I would just go ahead and get a new one now if you can afford to. Might not be a bad idea to upgrade to a billet one. If you want to stay OEM, then I know most of the racers on here that use OEM replace them about once a year.

The oil you are using is fine. Clutch slippage due to the incorrect oil is normally caused by using oil with friction modifiers. Just curious, what brand of oil are you using?

Does it come in a black bottle? Just make sure it does not contain friction modifiers.

Ones that are bad are the ones that have the little circle on the back (bottom-right usually) that says Energy Saving. Those can potentially make your clutch slip.
