cheep power gains for a 400ex

I need some cheap ways to get some power out of my 400ex. my brother just sold his 400 for a banshee and my dads got a predator im still payin off the bill for my 400 when i got it in january and just want to keep up a little better. Got any ideas??:ermm:

A new cam is a inexpensive performance upgrade and you get awesome gains.

take the airbox lid off and rejet. put in a better air filter also.

few cheap ways are put in an XR head gasket only about $20, sparks advanced timing Key only $20. best way is to spend a little more and get a piston and cam

less then $100 what i really want is a 440 kit but i want it to still be reliable but thats gotta be couple hundred for piston and a hot cam.

That motor will be reliable, and wont run near as hot as the 440. The piston will run you around $100, the hotcam stg 2 will be cheapest from chapparal, I have checked, for like $129 shipped. Of course you will need a bore job, im not sure what that will run you but you will gain a helluva lot more power through that than you could with 10 of the cheaper mods.

how much power will you get if u install a 11:1 piston stock bore? how hard is it to install a piston and cam?

HMF and Curtis Sparks are said to be the best performing pipes for the 400ex. Im satisfied with my HMF. Stock Bore high comp piston will add a little power, but not anything too drastic. Installation isnt too bad if you have basic knowledge of how the motor works and a manual.

correct me if im wrong, but ive heard that a stock bore high compression piston (11:1) and good cam and exhaust will keep up with a 416.

And you usually install a cam at that time if you havent already. so... no, a stock bore high comp wont stay up with the 416. no replacement for displacement.

Just save your money and go for a 416 bore, NIce high comp piston (11:1) good stage 2 cam and you could port it your self if you have the tools. you will be way happer.

I wouldnt advise people to port their own heads just because they have the tools to do it. They could cause themselves some serious problems.

what is everything you need to buy do bore to 416 or 426 and what is the cost for everything?

I wouldnt get more than a pipe, jets, airfilter u dont wanna mess with the engine this early u will blow ur quad up sooner
