Carb Question-Just finished rebuild

I just finished a rebuild, the plug looked rather black, should I adjust the air fuel mixture? Will adjusting the idle screw lean it out a little bit. I have a 170 dj main.

adjust your needle jet, and if that doesnt help go a size down for your main jet.

Is that what they mean when they say "clip"

Yes your needle in the slide has a little C clip retainer on it. Moving it up the notches (lowering the needle) makes it leaner.. down on the notches (raising the needle) makes it richer
