View Full Version : Will the stock chain fit a 14t sprocket?

I run 22 inch tires for the extra ground clearance, and I want the low end back I lost by going to the taller tires. Will the stock chain still fit if I go to a 14 tooth front sprocket, or am I going to have to get a link taken out (plus a master link, I know) ?

Thanks,
Lorrin

When I did it I had to take a link out of my chain. I'd guess that if you're chain's over half way worn, and there's less than 1/2 of the adjustment range left, you might be too slack once you put on a 14t sprocket...

I assume you are talking about a 400ex leel?

If so, it worked just fine for me with the stock chain and from a 15 tooth front sprocket to a 14 tooth.

Have fun!

Um maybe you guys missed the question, but he MAY have to take a link out of his chain if it's worn....I did. I don't see how it helps him to say"Sure dude, it'll work" without saying you MIGHT have to take a link out. You don't know it will work unless his quad or chain is fairly new.... ;)

well, if it's worn, he might have to take out a link, that's true. if it's that worn, and he's putting on a new front sprocket, he should probably replace the chain, and probably the rear sprocket. it's always a good idea to replace all three components if possible.

that being said, if it's the stock chain, i don't think there is a master link, so he'd have to cut the chain and get a master link that would work for the chain, which would probably be more trouble than getting a new chain. just my opinion.

if the chain is worn you will have to lose a link and on the stock chain that's a b**** this means buy a new one.
