I am looking to buy a new quad,I have a Cannondale Cannibal
now, and am looking to buy something new..

I am looking at 400ex, Z400, Predator..
I trail ride 90% of the time. I barely get the C-dale out of 2nd or 3rd gear.So top power is not an issue..
I like the low price of the 400ex , but for a few more hundred is the suzuki or predator worth it?? I have heard this bike smokes that bike, but to me getting beat by 1-2 bike lengths is not a big deal..
I would appreciate any honest opinions..

400ex/LTZ400 are both awesome trail bikes. The Predator will probably be a little too much for the woods, just like the C-dale. And their very wide stock.

I have a KFX400 and love it for the woods.. but the 400ex is one of my favorite bikes. (Old style)

the predator would probablly be sort of like the c-dale because its got alot of power and you wouldnt be able to run the gears as much as on a 400.

the z400 and 400ex are pretty similar but the z400 is a little better stock than the 400ex because its water cooled and comes stock with better shocks. but they are pretty much equal and both great. the kawasaki kfx400 is the same thing as the z400 also. i can say i love my z400 for the trails and couldnt be happier with the power it has.

both 400s have reverse now so thats not an issue but the z is liquid cooled and better shocks

well i used to have a 03 z400. it was good for fast trail riding. didnt have alot of torque. i went back to honda jsut for reliablility since the z400 would break something newall the time. i like the honda better. not having reverse doesnt really matter. it has alot more bottom end than the z400, but its nothing a gearing change would fix. but i would no doubt get a 400ex. it a good all around quad.

Well I will be the first to say keep the cannondale. They are awsome quads, I would love to have one. And if your only in 2nd and 4rd all the time, it will be pritty much the same with the other quads your looking at. IMO you have one of the best quads out there, you will kick yourself in a year or so if you get rid of it now.

My son rides a 400ex and it is very trail friendly. It is a great bike if you are never out of 3rd gear and don't want a ton of power. My son is only 9 and has had his about 6 months and he loves it.We put works shocks on it & it lands great when he jumps. They predator is not going to run as good at a slower pace, but a great all around bike.Good luck bike shopping :) .

Get a 400ex. Their cheap, easy to mod and mods are cheaper for them. Their reliable, and are great for trails

I would deff try to ride the two 400's my dad has a pred its fun but not much of a trail machine the 400ex is fun to ride but for me the choice would be the z they are a tad light up front and are a blast to ride and did I mention they have reverse?

Either a 400ex or Z/KFX/DVX400 would be a good choice. Definately my favorite quads for riding trails. They handle great and have plenty of power for tight trails like you ride in.

They would both have 450's if I could afford it! They both ride my Banshee too? My 11 year old is a drag racing machine.

drag racing is one thing, but if their riding trails and such most 9 year olds dont have enough body weight to effect the bike when thier leaning and on off camber type stuff. but i dont want to start a fight, you kids your quads;)

I believe it is the ability of each kid.I am a single mom who started both my boys on bikes at 4 years old.By 10 my oldest son was pulling me at the top of Competion hill at Sand Mountain .They have rode everything from motocross tracks to sand drags on built YFZ450's & Banshee's.I know their limits & so do they.My kids ride better than alot of guys I know.I am not saying we haven't broke any bones or had any trips to the E.R because that's riding. To each is own I guess.

Between the ATVs that you listed I'd probably go for the Z400. It felt better then the 400EX did. I don't really know about the Polaris, I've never ridden one.

If you were going to buy new though, I would spend the extra money on the 700R Raptor. More torque, and Fuel injection!
